I haven't been to Terra Nova for some time because winter finally made it to my area. The ground now is frozen which leaves working the soil out of the question. I can only continue to cut up the downed tree. I've discovered from neighbor's comments that the tree is a Mulberry tree and not a cottowood. I have the tree sectioned up but will need to farther cut the sections into chunks to be able move them better.

I have been researching a method of gardening called Hugelkultr. It's a German method of burying chunks of wood under about a foot of dirt and making a raised bed over the wood. It's supposed to increase the water retention of the soil and keep watering needs at a minimum.
