Raising alpacas
We've only had our alpacas since December, but so far they are very easy to take care of. They mostly graze on any type of grass (do not use endophyte enhanced fescue) and I supplement with Orchard grass hay and alpaca feed. Each animal only eats about 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. of food per day. They are extremely efficient at digesting their food. They are very easy on the pasture and they all use a communal dung pile so it is always in one place. We give worm shots once a month to fight meningeal worms they may be infected with by white tail deer. Fresh water and a three sided shelter and they stay quite content. I have heard that they should not be pastured with sheep or goats but I don't know why. That is something you would have to look into more. If you have more questions, let me know and I will try and answer them or lead you to a good website.
Cheers,
Tom
