Cows n' stuff
My parents had two Holsteins in the 50's. I'll post a photo of our "barn" someday. My Ma, who's 92, remembers that when they were allowed to graze in the woods, they would eat acorns and their milk was bitter but had high milkfat. I worked for a dairy farmer in the 70's. He milked 40 head. I loved being a "hired man".

If I could have a cow or two,it would be a little Jersey, because of those deep brown eyes. I understand that they give high milkfat for lesser produce but in a perfect world, for a family subsistence farm, I think it would be perfect. I love those cute Angus steers too but I remember a Charlais steer that was a pet on that dairy farm. He would lick my cap off during chores and I would put my arm around his neck and hug him. Of course, the weekend I showed up to work and he was gone I then realized the reality of farming but still, I'll remember him the rest of my life and that, I suppose, means something. Talk to you again. I'm gonna post something about our favorite birds in the future. --Gary
