We haven't had a problem with the feral hogs as of yet. When we first started we had our girls in confinement which worked great up until the fire. After that we did some reading on field farrowing and decided to give it a try. After 20 or so litters it's one of the best decisions we made as far as the Berkshires are concerned. We recently got two Hampshire sows that we are going to try and field farrow and see how they do. What is your stance on housing boars? We have our main boar Sparky and we keep him with the sows even while the piglets are in the pasture and have never had a problem. We have heard from other farmers though that they are not able to do this because of the temperament of the boar.
