P29's twins to the house
Well once again this year I will be raising P29's lambs. She is an older ewe that always throw's excellent lambs and 2 years ago after we had weaned her set of twin ewe lambs she got mastitis, we hoped that she might recover from it but her bag last year was still bad, so I fed her twin ram lambs. This year she has a mixed set of twins 50% white Dorper & Katahdin, and they look very nice, the girl will be a keeper.... but again she will not be able to feed them. Usually you would not keep a ewe like this but we have 2 or 3 older girls and as we milk cows for our self we always have lots of milk for the extra lambs... so we have allowed the old girls to just go on enjoying life and giving us a lamb if they feel like it... one very old girl gave us the biggest nicest lamb, yet she was skinny and decrepit (just waiting to be fed to the dogs) They are amazing creatures and if they have done well for us we feel they have earned that extra life of leisure and grazing.
