Do you want a hog for the freezer, just because or you have some one who wants to show? We have them for many reasons.

Rule of thumb for every 3#'s of feed you get 1# of weight gain.

They are very trainable, if you put the time into it.

Know your breeder and go with your gut when purchasing. Ask them if they have the parents on site and what shots were given. Don't know if the Rhini Shield TX4 is back on the market, when it was backorderd for so long I went to the vet and got another brand to give to our son's pigs.

Check out the different types and see what's close to you.

I would stay away from pruchaing from an auction barn unless you are in a pinch. Just remember the 30 day rule before introducting them to other animals.

Introduce new foods to the pigs slowy. They do need some trace minerals in their diet and you can go with a balance pig ration. We always weight our feed to the pigs, because there is a difference between grain and pellet feed. Show pigs get 4#s a feeding and then when off the circuit they slowy drop to 2#'s per feeding and more out of the pen time.

Got questions, our 4-H has his POV....

Merry Christmas and a Safe New Year.
