Good Afternoon!
We raise Nubians and Nubian/Alpines. Some of ours have milked way into the 2nd year without being rebred. Others have barely milked past when their kids would have been weaned. That's when good production records come into play. If you have a doe that's super hard to dry off, next year wait a few months, to breed her. The ones that didn't milk past weaning, we sold for meat.Unless you have super bloodlines, and need to replace your buck, castrate all buck kids. You can find a meat market, even for dairy kids. We are breeding to a Boer buck this fall, for the meat market. IBucks are very smelly, they have glands behind their horns and pee on their beards, Then they rub heads and chins all over the does, I don't think the milk is affected by hormones. You don't want to keep him far away, he'll get lonely and mean, as long as he's not close to your milkers you're OK.
