Sarah Dorroh Sweeney

Sarah Sweeney Sarah Dorroh Sweeney is former associate editor for Hobby Farms and Hobby Farm Home, based in beautiful Lexington, Ky. As an avid reader, one of her favorite aspects of the position was the chance to request, read and review the latest books on crafting, cooking and sustainable living for the "Good Reading” column in each issue of Hobby Farm Home as well as the "What We’re Reading Now” column for Urban Farm, for which she is a regular contributor. She was a member of the BowTie (now I-5 Publishing, LLC) family from 2000 to 2012 and previously worked in the sales and editorial departments of Thoroughbred Times magazine, where she was photo editor for almost five years.

Sarah has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She’s volunteered with a local animal sanctuary (providing care to both companion and farm animals) since 1999, serving as president of the organization for five years. During this time, she gained first-hand experience working with dogs, cats, cows, goats, pigs, horses and rabbits. She and her husband maintain a furry family of four cats and a dog—all rescues, of course! Although admittedly lacking a green thumb, she enjoys spending time in her backyard and does her best to maintain a small container garden growing heirloom varieties of tomatoes and peppers. Because she would probably starve if she relied solely on her own gardening efforts, she is beyond grateful for her weekly CSA share from a local farm.

Community and food are two of Sarah’s greatest passions, and she’s found both in Lexington, with its growing commitment to the local movement, seasonal eating, sustainable living and creative expression. As a self-proclaimed foodie, she enjoys experiencing the best that local farms and chefs have to offer.
