We just recently started with goats. I have boer goats and a dairy goat. What is special about nubians? I am curious. Are they for meat or dairy or what?

  re: white milk soap
Creamy color to dark brown milk soaps are a result of the enzymes in the milk reacting to the sodium hydroxide. Milk soaps will never be white regardless of the process; however, the fewer ingredients you use and higher proportion of lard over other oils will produce the lightest soaps.
We've been making goat milk soap for over twenty years and it is always an adventure!
Love talking soap :)

Hi! What do you do with your Nubians? We just moved onto our farm and inherited 21 of them, and have been taken by their personalities. I'm thinking about milking them.

Thanks for welcoming me! Do you milk the nubians?
So do you milk the nubians? Do you make Goats Milk Soap?? Cold process soap is a great side line. Learning to make white milk soaps is a bit harder to do since milk scorches and turns the bars a tan color. So far, even with freezing, I have been unable to get a white milk soap. But it is probably because my batches go through the gel phase and that is when they turn tan. I guess I should just not wrap them up but I got tired of failed batches and went back to non milk soaps. But I did love goat milk when my brother had his herd. As long as he kept the billy away from the milkers, the cold milk tasted just as wonderful as cow's milk and I liked it better (organic, you know).

Since I am into fiber (alpaca herd!!) I am trying to keep myself from buying ANGORA goats for their mohair. I think for now I will stick to the alpacas (way too much fleece to process by hand at the moment) and just BUY the kid mohair fleeces to process. But I AM tempted!!! Maybe in my next life, nubians and angoras, goat milk soap and kid mohair yarn!!

Cheers and take care! Farm life is wonderful, even if you have to rent the farm like I do and live in the city!

  Thx for the visit
My husband took that pic right after a quick summer shower that only lasted about ten minutes. There was another rainbow off to the right further away but this was the best pic for actually seeing the closer one.
I recently lost my job due to our lovely economy- store closed that I managed- so hope to keep learning and meeting people to learn from so we can keep our "alternative" pets happy and healthy. Always a rainbow with every storm? More time to do something I actually love doing now! No goats (yet) but something we are definitely considering. Love ur puppy pic!

  Nubian Addict
Hi Again!
I adore my Nubian Princess, Mary Jane. Nubians are not that popular up here in my part of Alaska, but I don't care...I think this breed is wonderful. Mary Jane is headed to our Fair to be shown on August 9, 2009.
