  Hi!
Hope everything is OK. My goats are settling in, although I have a Bichon yapping at them every minute she can. We try to keep her in the side yard. But, she has other ideas. Starting to get a bit cooler at night, now. Still warm days.

  Rain
And lots of it! I went goat shopping today, picked up 2 Alpine doelings. The cost includes breedings for as long as I own them. Good deal. I took my 7 and 10 yr old Grandkids along. I told them I do my best goat shopping in the rain..little one says, Oh. Grandma the goats will get wet, too. So. I say they're wet already. Everything went well, until the Alpaca decided the oldest looked fun to play with. And the Komodors decided the little one needed to be sat on. She squeals like a girl!

  Hi!
Havn't heard from you. Is everything OK? Lots of rain this summer, almost every day since 7-4. Cooler past few nights. It just might rain until it snows, this year. The pig virus has hit the area, we're butchering ours. They tell everyone to wait it out, for 2 years. But, I can't justify the cost.

this winter has been mild with warm spring days and cold nights down to 3 and 4*C. rain comes some times

farms up north of us are going to have a dry finish with little of the heads full...... not good, but wheat prices have dropped in this country probably along with every one elses grain prices. will be good for those feeding livestock in the next year or two that being the case.

have been through some rough patches with contaminated grain and sick animals across the board. dont know if the grower new it was bad or not. but not suitable for animal feed only for seed.

abs stopped us selling as well for a couple of weeks, and vet arrived in Aust as well and due here some time this month.

he has to have a quarantine period cause we are disease free and free of drugs as well.

thinking about selling weaners to lighten work my work load as well, to a big piggery but they have PCV2 and we dont so that in itself is a worry...... he cannot come to my farm and i cannot go to his.

  Good Evening!
We're having afternoon thunder storms, almost daily. Which is a very good thing, as they were saying we were drier this year then 3 years ago. That fire was devastating. My girls, 2 of the grandkids, and I were in Montana, over the 4th, did the North loop in Yellowstone Park, many museums, and my favorite---rock shops! My son in law stayed home, as he had to work. The animals all survived, but the garden not so much. I had cracked ribs 2 weeks before we left, couldn't drive. We just took a little extra time, the girls did the driving and I enjoyed the scenery..

Well half of today might not be what you want. it is a very severe cold wind blowing and I am sure If you stood outside long enough it would blow you out of your underwear........ and rain it is almost horizontal....so i would enjoy your hot day cause it is better than what we are having today. it has blow lids off pig huts over the last two days, made the drive way all slippery. worse than an ice skating rink........and just awful. was not too bad this morning but as the day has gone on so the wind has gotten stronger. Put feed out this morning but hey not this afternoon, it might end up at your place the wind is so strong. it is whistling through the shed like a sing song....and the draft is just awful, you can feel the breeze under the desk where I sit and type this note to you CSE. Jordie was shivering on the tractor so have lit the wood stove for some warmth. would love a 39 degree day today beats what we have......

  Hi!
My daughter is doing very well, now. Thank you. The grandbaby is super. She is much healthier than her brother was at that age! The pigs have had a reprieve, at least for now. The meadow larks are here already! We have had so little rain/snow this year, I'm so afraid of fire after last time! We're the same trees are budding, grass is coming up. They started warning the area communities months ago, to prepare for problems this summer! We're keeping our fingers crossed.

I have a new Granddaughter, born right before Christmas! 2 of each, now. My oldest daughter was in the hospital the week before Thanksgiving, she thought she just had the flu, but wound up with blood poisoning. But, everything's better now. She just gets tired easily. The weather here has been beautiful, 50s daytime, 25 or so at night. Not much snow, though. Did you get any of that brutal cold last week? Hope everone's OK!

merry Christmas and a prosperous new year CSE it is hot and windy and just plain awful. girls are doing fine, but grain is a difficult situation....... great harvest had by all but big business has scooped the pool and will want to sell it for top dollar. but went for a drive yesterday after a comment from the workman. Saw a farm with a fantastic set up....... plenty of money put in to it. Bit like a shrine and the owner not there. but a workman instead. Said they did not have grain for sale but the little people's body language told a different story.........

Any way I left there in disgust but not put off by it. Dropped in to the next farm down the road and managed to pick up over 100 ton........ so was worth the stroll in the ute. Lots of roos and bunnies on the way home.

Out today to another part of this farm and borrowed their truck and brought one load home. around 12 ton. Good start.

owner could not find his phone and caught up with me at the road house getting fuel....and followed me home had a look around and this might mean i get grain from them next year....which would take away the problem. he might also chat to neighbours. at least they would have an income all year around. wait and see what happens. it was certainly a good chrissy pressie none the less.

Off to the city tomorrow for 2 days....cant afford anymore time than that.

Cold weather, sorry to hear about your pipes.
When anyone asks me about farm living, I say the hardest part, is winter water problems. We seem to manage everything else OK, but worrying every year about plumbing, is a drain [pun intended!] I'm off tomorrow and my first chore is moving the pig's water. We knew, last spring, when we put it in the shade, it wouldn't work for winter. One of those things that should have been done already! It started snowing an hour or so ago. the daughter is ecstatic. Why can't we be ready for winter? I drive everyone nuts, when I say winter's coming in July. You'd think they'd listen! Hope you're doing better.

  Hi!
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! My oldest daughter was in the hospital the week before. She was released in time for turkey, so we had much to be thankful for! The wind is howling here, tonight. This time of the year that usually means a storm tomorrow. Did the storm, last week effect you? My driveway has just dried out, now another coming. Hopefully not as bad!

Hi CSE.....yes the days are getting warm to hot. but today it is COLD and WET and WINDY...BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Just when you think it is nearly summer. Harvest not yet complete and we still have hay on the ground waiting to be baled.

Had baler troubles and hopefully we can get the new parts on, but now it has rained will have to wait till the hay is dry to bale.

Litter of pigs today 11 all up...... am happy with that. Got lots to wean and no where to go.

weaner pen full to capacity. topped up their feeder today and made up two mixes as well. Little pits are OK but bigger pigs are out.

Also made up some feeder stations so that the wind does not blow the feed away..... this year has been awful for wind.

been taking pigs to market weekly which is good. Abs wanted small suckers but on OTC at present with a 4 week with holding period so bad luck. they dont tell you weeks in advance just ask at the drop of a hat. silly really.

Happy Thanks giving.

Had a coolish day today, wind just seemed to pass right through you. Put a beanie and a coat on most of the day. Been putting in straw to all the grower pens of which there are 7

Also done the sows and little pigs, just trying to shift sows and little pigs to a new nursery pen. dont feel like going down this afternoon to close the gate, but might wandered tonight to see what is going on. Shall see what the wind is doing....might not either.

up early this morning and put out lactating sow feed. the mill has a few problems with a fan that is worn out and an auger that needed new bearings. but the fan is our problem

I have a New Holland 352 and have approached some of the companies in the States to find out what I can about this machine seeing they are built over there.

So it is in bits for now, but I also have an Allbulk machine which holds 2 ton and I can do their feed in this for now. I use both and it will put pressure on the other machine and the tractor.

We had some rain last night but not enough to measure in the gauge.

Nobby was in full swing yesterday mating some of the his girls that I weaned 4 days ago He comes to the fence for a pat and a cuddle. When I go in to the pen he is a bit bossy, but if he works then fine....... I would like to breed a bit of his colour in to sows to produce another line.

If the white would increase around his face and head it would be good. We dont have Herefords here in Australia, so to produce one would be just great.

Have been out baiting for foxes, say a cheeky fox playing in the long grass last week, and that night it rained, not good for baiting on a wet night..

Had a lazy afternoon as I dont get too much time off.

Going to be 30 celcius tomorrow so the cool change is short lived.

Got to collect the eggs and feed the two lambs that I have. One I call "Pop" as he is the greedy lamb of the two and does anything he can to disturb the "Eye" from his feed. Mind you "Eye" is a whole lot bigger but a big sook none the less and likes a little milk.

Nobby doing well, he has been working all the young girls and the first litter gilts. dont want to sterilize him think he is doing a great job. One eyed boy of mine...... he is a bit bossy with me, but he stays in his pen pretty much and seems happy. give him a call daily and a pat. he has learnt about the electric fence so hopefully he wont get any more of a handful

  Hi!
No, we havn't really looked into the Dexters. I'll check them out. We live at almost 8000 ft, when we first moved here. we had a little Jersey. She'd been wormed, vaccinations were up to date, everything. But, she lost weight. Checked with the vet, he said all milkers look skinny. She died a few months later, he came out and told me she'd had Briscuit [sp] disease [enlarged heart] from the altitude. If he'd even hinted at that in the beginning, I could have sent her back down the mountain!!I've heard Highlanders are dual purpose, and the daughter loves the dreadlocks! Glad to here Pippin is doing better.

Hi CSE Wish we could have some of your warm days here today and yesterday. It has been blowing gale for the last 2 1/2 days and the rain has just blown along with it. Water every where. Might lose Nobby as he is not eating or drinking and I have shifted him in to the shed with some straw...always the way pets seem to be so soft in comparison to the rest of the herd.

will be upset if that is the case but with the weather as it has been it is difficult to get out to assess every thing. I hope the weather fines up tomorrow, the wind has certainly dropped.

I hope it is like this tomorrow.

I need to crush some grain tomorrow and put wormer in it.

Poly my cat she has been inside today, she is a strange girl, she likes a pat and when she has had enough she gives a nip. she was 18mths when she came to me and it took 2 mths to get to the point of boss ( Me) she used to be the boss at the old peoples home and she was nt a nice cat, but now she is good. she has learnt that it is not good manners to scratch and bite. She has had many a clout from me in the first 2 mths she was here and now she is more respectful. she is a Ragdoll cross....with long hair.

  Hi!
It's finally raining! Hope you had a nice weekend, when we first moved here, our parade took maybe 10 minutes, with about 10 people every block or so to watch. This year it was more than an hour long, hundreds of people!! What a difference! Sorry, to hear about Pippin. How is he doing? No, we don't have the Highlander yet, we're shopping! The chicken girl sits in the coop and they jump in her lap. We had 3 ducklings hatch, but their mom didn't take care of them, so we're down to 1. We put it in with a chick, she raises her wing and under the duckling goes! So, cute!

Hope you're having a good day! "We" couldn't wait for a chick order, so to town we went! We now have 2 Rhode Island Whites[have never tried them] 2 Buff Orpingtons[ditto] 3 Black Australorpes and 3 Americaunas[both of which I've had and like] She picks them up every morning, turns them upside down, and checks them for what we call pasty butt. She's beginning to smell like chicken country! The brooder is wonderful, I am going to change the wiring, so it can go onto a car battery and solar panel. It's supposed to brood up to 20 chicks, I wanted to try the 10 first, see how it goes. But, I think 20 would have been fine. Everyone was out of the 50 capacity, I think I'll pick one up as soon as they're available.

Well it is the first day of winter CSE.......brrrrrrrrrrr cold first frost yesterday morning......saw the frost settling on the wood pile was as the local second hand section in our small town of Coorow in Western Australia,,,,,picking up pallets and tin for the making of pig huts. They are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. So it was cold but once I got going I was right.....good and warm.

Dont like the cold but love the heat. but it is easier on the pigs when it is cooler but not cold. hard on the babies that is for sure. the finishers have a tendency to put on fat, so their diets have to be changed to make sure they dont put on too much but that the feed keeps them warm. The other thing to do is to put straw in their huts.

How is your season going? and your animals?

We got just short of 2 inches last week. It was so wet, the piggery is not too bad, but went to crush grain yesterday to find the trough where the auger goes was full of water and all the wheat and lupins swollen. had to clean that out before i could start....... dont quite know how to get around the problem water must run down the auger and in to the trough...... not good. but today for mothers day it was a great day, fine and sunny but the wind has a chill to it and it was cold this morning. Couple of sows that gave just gone dry, no piglets in site, dont know what to think. We had a fairly summer and we may be in for a cold winter.
