I keep losing my points, I'm going to make myself an appointment, to post something!! So busy ,but it doesn't seem much gets accomplished! Weather's beautiful in the AMs, clouds up about 11:30- just teases us with rain. We're looking at Scottish Highlander calves and Buff Brahma chicks. My brooder finally came, today! So, we'll get that order in tonight! I bought an EcoGlow from Brinsea. I'll let you know how it goes. We have to wait until the fencing is done, for the calf. He turned 9 today, so he can start 4-H. The chicken girl is 6, she's going into Daisy scouts with a promise from Grandma, that I can teach her about chickens! Hope you have a good day!Come visit me, Larkshire Farm.

We got just short of 2 inches last week. It was so wet, the piggery is not too bad, but went to crush grain yesterday to find the trough where the auger goes was full of water and all the wheat and lupins swollen. had to clean that out before i could start....... dont quite know how to get around the problem water must run down the auger and in to the trough...... not good. but today for mothers day it was a great day, fine and sunny but the wind has a chill to it and it was cold this morning. Couple of sows that gave just gone dry, no piglets in site, dont know what to think. We had a fairly summer and we may be in for a cold winter. Come visit me, Mindalong West.

Well greenery got, running out of feed, no rain in sight. They say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, see what happens. has been a wet summer but has been a bit here and there, but we need the rain to bring on the pasture, sheep just eating what they can find, for now.....paddocks getting light on, little bit of clover seed still to dig out. Some have sown canola and lupins dry others have just sprayed for now and still others have sown cereal dry as well. Pity we have mice in the ground. Have to wait and see others have not started. ANZAC day has passed and still no rain.....what will happen to this land if we dont get rain.... Come visit me, Mindalong West.

Good Morning!
Wacky, wacky weather! Last week in the 70s, snow this week! My daughter gave me 2 grape vines. I've never grown grapes .We potted them up and they are in the house until June! The piggies taste wonderful. We kept 2 of them, planning to AI the end of May. I cancelled my chick order, my Granddaughter wants to help. They are moving back next week. I am so excited! She will help pick out the chick order, then! Her brother wants to start 4-H with a calf. Did I mention I am excited?Come visit me, Larkshire Farm.

Days are cooler.....foggy last couple of days 59mm of rain received last week. the most we got in one afternoon was 27 mm and we were ankle deep in water as the ground was so dry it just ran around every where. Now it is green every where you look. Looks like it might have been the opening rains to start seeding shortly.
Been fencing the piggery all over and taking out all the old wire. Looks a whole lot better and the electric fence is working much better with less shorts on the fence. The paddocks have been made bigger. covering nearly 100 acres. We have plenty of land to expand if need be.
We have built many part radials to house pigs in with a hut in the middle of the paddock and wallow and and drinking trough
We have large farrow areas the huts being made of pallets covered in tin. They are warm in winter and cool in summer as opposed to tin hut which are cold in winter and hot in summer.Come visit me, Mindalong West.

We have had hot windy weather, no rain till last weekend. we got 18 mm all up. Rained all day but light, so got soaked over a period of time.
Glad to see the back of the hot weather, but am looking forward to the cooler days like today. Today was great, could work outside all day, and not have to come in and sit for an hour cause it is too hot to work.
Been fencing lately, just seems to go on and on. I guess we must be nearly through it though.
Concreting platforms for feeders, and shifting feeder.
Hospital for 24 hours for Gastroenteritis On a drip.....feel better now but it has been a long week.Come visit me, Mindalong West.

HOT....45 ysterday and cloudy and over cast today with
the forecast for a thunderstorm. cant seem to get away from the heat inside or outside. the sprinkler on the sows pen is great but dries in minutes. You can fry an egg on the ground on hot days. We have had fire bans movement and vehicle bans so no harvesting either. if it might start a fire then not allowed to do it....still allowed to check stock water but not allowed to drive willie nillie in the paddock.Come visit me, Mindalong West.

Horses in bunny suits! I love it!!!!!! The wind is blowing bad today, supposed to be worse tomorrow with snow. It's been warmer, this winter, for the most part. But, when the storms do come, it's brutal. We're butchering 2 pigs next weekend. I'm hoping we have enough apple wood, we're always on the look-out for the stuff! Hi!
Everyone here is getting over the flu and then colds. I decided to give up, on the horses. I just couldn't do it, by myself anymore. My daughter tries, but she can't do much, at times, either. They went to a good home, I can't have asked for better, but I still feel bad about it. I still have the donkeys, they keep me entertained! Hope you had a nice Holiday!! Hi!
How was your Thanksgiving? I was gone for a couple weeks, my piglets are HUGE !!!!!!! I guess they're not piglets anymore. We've had daytime temps in the 60s, nights have been freezing. But, todays up to only 40 and tonight we expect 12 degrees, might get some snow.We havn't had any yet. My daughter and her family are planning to come for Christmas (from Idaho) So, we're hoping for nice weather until she leaves! Then it can snow! Going back and forth to Montana, we saw 100s and 100s of Canadian geese that havn't flown South. It was amazing.Come visit me, Larkshire Farm.

In fact we have had storms, and cold winds to 100 km per hour, some people have had trees uproot, others have had roofs blown off. I have come out of it unscathed...nothing has moved in the piggery, no upturned huts, no lids off huts. no upturned augers, just a block auger from wet grain today..... had to clean the boot out to get the auger going. Paddocks not soaking wet, as the rain was short lived around here, but some farms have had from 40 mm to 64 mm in a short space of time. Fences washed away, and some have had hail the size of a cricket ball and ruined the harvest for some....ice every where. Then we have had 39 degree days as well, but come wed we are in for another down pour apparently. Hope it is a bit tamer than the last lot we got.
We also had lightening strikes and 9 fires in the district...the week before they were deliberately lit.....just what we dont need. 45 fires between us and Geraldton.....in a day........ all by lightening. Wind that just blew you out of your underwear....so strongCome visit me, Mindalong West.

We have had 39 degrees celcius on Tuesday of this week, and for the last 2 days it has been windy......Summer is nearly here.... not looking forward to it I must admit.
I run a 500 sow piggery on 600 acres of land. Farrow to finish. We have a water license and plenty of water below ground to accomadate all of us.
I run them all outside behind a ringlock and electric fence. I am a closed herd, I breed all my own boars and sows and only sell outwards. dont buy in any thing. I have been breeding brown and white belts for some years now and am getting pure piglets through
Peco has come good and now wears a muzzle only outside to stop him from picking up anything off the ground....and promptly swallowing it. some of the problem from before along with a hefty vet bill. so if the muzzle does its job and he learns not to touch any thing we may be right in time.

It has been a warm day here today. Started off very still and almost a spring morning.....but then the wind came up an ruined the day and it has been blowing its heart out all day. here we are at 5.48 pm in the evening and it has not let up. Put through 3 loads of grain this morning just working with the wind and now it has changed direction as well. Got more to do tomorrow have to be up early. I will be glad when this day is over, head ache very early this morning and it has come again this afternoon as well. I will be fine once the hot sun has gone. Not looking forward to summer and the extremes of temperature.
been building new huts and having more babies. Abbs is closing for one day a week, cause their aint enough pigs to kill...so have to work around that as well. Reckon their is going to be a world shortage of pig meat over the Christmas / new year period....see what happens. Grain has gone through the roof pity, but growers are happy or should I say some of them.
Supposed to rain tomorrow late and on Sunday as well. Hotting up to 38 degrees celcius on Tuesday.....Come visit me, Mindalong West.

So how long have you live in the USA what did you do in NZ besides going to school. More what did you folks do.....and where are you from originally.
Week has been so so. dog at the vet for the scours..... in hospital for 2days...... full of beans now. chewing on a bone right now and all I can hear is his teeth scraping the bone..... hope he gets tired to and has a nap. He is an Australian Kelpie silver in colour but with red cloud parents.....He has a little white on his chest and 3 feet have white on the toes. not what you want but he is a beautiful looking dog. green/yellow eyes not dark brown. that colour coat does not lend to dark brown eyes. very alert, eyes in the back of his head so to speak, ears pricked right up always listening. Yes if can find the one you made a mistake on and correct it you will also be at No. 1 like me. they do encourage you to repeat them and get them all right. I dont American History very well but have learnt a lot along the way..... I know more about Australia than America. I have had to look up a lot of the answers and have done a lot of reading about all sorts of areas in your country.

I havn't been on, in forever! Like everyone else, busy, busy, busy! And not getting much done. We're drowning in apples, here. Hopefully getting some apple mint jelly up, this weekend. Canning jars have been hard to find, this year. It's been suggested I try freezing some, but I worry they'll be smushy. I bought 4 weaner pigs a month ago, they're eating like pigs. They are enjoying the apples that turn before I get to them! We'll keep the 2 best gilts for breeding next year. Another and the little boar are going into the freezer. So, how have you been doing?
