Tell P2 to look on line at some of the carving web pages and see how simple some of the tool are .You do not have to have all the fanccy chisles just the basice ones and you can make some of them out of old wood chisels and Knives. The main thing is they have to be sharp.I got to use one of my newer shop tools today .I think it will pay for itsself before long and it cutts so nice.I cut some 1/4 steel plate to make a mount in notime and much better cut than my torchs. It is a good rainy day job. see you later Mike Come visit me, MIKE,S GWMR.

Nothing like smelling the chicken manure that Papa has pilled in the pecan field. The spreaders are too big to go through our gates and now we have to wait for a smaller spreader machine to come and put it out. All I can say is that the grass under the pills are burnt! Come visit me, The Homestead.

On the fence whether or not to call the breeder about P2's boar and see if they are able to come down or not this weekend. I emailed him Fancy's papers to see if she related to the boar we are hoping to purchase, but no response yet. Last time we talked about about a pick up this weekend. Washington Parish if you haven't gotten the letter from the LSU AgCenter, there is a 4H meeting for parents in the Franklinton Office @ 5:30.Come visit me, The Homestead.

If I did it right you should have some pix of a Morris chair one of our woodworking mem just finshed and some of Shannons new est calf mother is half red angus and belted Galloway dad is belted but no papers.Hope the trailer does allright they are expensive to fix.And it is no fun .That type of workis what Shannon and his dad does.I get alot of my steel and parts from them and help them when I can. Ask P2 how long it would take him to carve the trees on the chair sides? The man that built the chair built two of them .He had to carve 4 of the side panels . see you later Mike Come visit me, MIKE,S GWMR.

Had to turn the misting system off the pigs. For two days straight it has not gotten higher then 55. The north wind was nonstop. P2 and I made a mud pen for his litter crew. Even though they are on a hog ration, don't know what they are missing, because they sure looked like they jumped in weight when they got asscess to the mud. Come visit me, The Homestead.

Going to start with an egg per feeding once she get back to a full scoop of powder milk. Which should be the middle of next week. P2 said once she is through with this 50# sack she will be on cattle feed only.Come visit me, The Homestead.

Found 1 site that's gmo free and it's in Ohio and the other sites are organic and on either side of the USA. Nothing inbetween. Now I'm wrestinling about putting son's three pigs on a self feeder or still hand feed and let them grow slowly. We don't have to make a certain weight for his two gilts because they will be in a gilt breeding class. I guess we will see how they look in a few weeks and then decide. Son's new boar Egeal Eye will be coming down around the 18th or 19th of May. Don't know if if I will be able to put Charles in the same pen with him because of the size difference and age. Charles is 2 mths younger. No photo yet of EE or weight.Come visit me, The Homestead.

Organics / GMO's A lot of misconception there. Most people do not even understand organics let alone GMO's. The thing people need to realise about GMO's is that they are "test tube babies". NOT hybrids, which are selective breeding of the natural parents for the best qualities of both.Gene splicing does not naturally take place in nature, hybridizing does. As far as feed goes if it contains corn of any kind it is probably GMO variety. Somthing like 90% of the corn in US is GMO (Monsanto). Sad . :(Come visit me, Linda's Zen Garden.

Gee it has been busy on here. I see you are all busy with your fairs and animals as well. I also ahve been busy fencing and farrowing. Between doctors appointments and specialist appointments etc. Piggery nearly got all new fencing. Just building knew farrowing area, not happy with the community farrow pens, to many loses due to canabalism....worry sick about what they are doing down there, so have gone away from that idea. dont know how others do it, but have not been very successful with it...so single huts here we come with rabbit netting down to the ground with barb along the bottom and the top of the wire and a hot wire just out from the fence say a foot hanging from part star picket with a black plastic insulator, attached to the post and then to the single strand wire. If she her offspring in with no one to interfer with the litter. Been good in the other avenue we have built no piglet boards necessary as they cannot go any where. the huts are made out of pallets and covered in corrugated tin. Shall add photos when finished. Come visit me, Mindalong West.

No snakes please. I know what you mean about snakes......I hate them even the "good" ones. Several years ago I found a huge black snake curled up nice and cozy in one of my chicken nest boxes snacking away on eggs. Boy did I see red, over come my fear temporarily, got hubby and chopped him (the snake) to death with a shovel. Hubby Jeff kept saying I think he's dead already after I dispatched him into about 5 pieces. LOL. I hate snakes about as much as I hate fire ants and squash bugs. They had better leave my girls eggs alone.Come visit me, Linda's Zen Garden.

Looks like rain, maybe it will get the grass a jump start. Hubby mowed Flash and CC's pen until he rain out of gas. So that's about 1/2 cut. Maybe the tender grass will get them growing. Next show is in September and I have to start washing Flash. CC is still too young for that yet. But not too young to start halter breaking. Come visit me, The Homestead.

Congrats to all the kids that showed. Hope to see some at the Pike County Show in September. P2 and Spotswatch received 1st in their class and placed Top 10 in Showmanship. Spotswatch was good and shared his trailer with Charles (son's new boar). We helped PaPa with the 1st stage of AIing some of the cows over the weekend. Chicken dove into the pumpkins that we smashed in their yard. Hubby cut grass and left my crimson clover alone for another couple of weeks. We racked that up and gave buckets to all the chickens and the pigs. Trying to figure out a way to cut my crimson close to the ground and not use the weedeater or the lawnmore. Need to get my seeds for next years replanting on the crimson clover.Come visit me, The Homestead.

greens for chickens that is so funny that you would say that about feeding the chickens greens. One perk to living below the Mason Dixon line is the ability to grow greens galore during the winter and I too feed my girls greens all winter and spring, It makes their yolks yellow and full of Vitamin D, folate and vitamin K. So healthy!I also like green tea, have you tried Jasmine tea? It is really good hot tea and I love it. Yummy. This year I am growing Lime Basil for mosquito control and cooking but I hear it makes a really good herbal tea as well.Come visit me, Linda's Zen Garden.
