OUR FIRST EGG! We're like new proud parents! HAha! It's small, brown with freckles. Don't know which hen it's from, it was on the floor instead of the nest....

  Damn! It's Hot Outside!
Been working on the garden since 630 this morning and finally taking a break now cause it's just too hot and muggy outside...

I'm still adjusting to the weather here. It's a far cry from San Diego.

Come visit me, Duke's Gardens.

  melons everywhere!!
cantalope and watermelon everywhere!! Took about 20 watermelons to the famers market yesterday and sold them all in about 2 hours. The 15 or so catalopes I decided to take were gone just as quickly...along with tomatoes, green beans sweet peppers and hot peppers.

I got the fencing started around the property this week.

Now about to spent a little time with the family working on some scarecrows for the pumpkin patch.

Come visit me, Duke's Gardens.

  still going strong...
Lots ofheat and humidity this week, but still managed to get a nice supply of tomatoes, bush beans, cantalope, corn, squash and watermelon harvested and did very well at the farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday.

Taking a break right now enjoying the AC in the house after as busy morning at church. But need to get outside and weed the garden around all the pumpkin plants...boy are they growing quickly!!!

Hey there, thanks for writing back; no, haven't gotten the chickens yet...but bought fence/supplies and plan to get to it by the weekend. So it won't be long til we're up and running! I have my heart set on a Bourbon Red Turkey, too! Sooo pretty!
Took vacation week off from the "real" job, but it has flown by...too much to do! ha. And since we've only been here a few months, friends want to come visit (which is GREAT!) but then the fences don't get put up... ha. Maybe I should have a "gathering" party and hand them all tools as the pull in!!!

Come visit me, RailRidge.

  Busy Week
Spent yesterday getting more seed and other stuff for the garden. Planting radishes, beets, carrots, cabbage, lettuce and squash for the fall garden. Also harvesting more tomatoes, bush beans, cantalope and peppers today so I can hit the local farmers market tomorrow.

Thursday I'll continue excavating for the pond. And maybe work on some fencing.

Friday will be more harvesting for Saturday's market.

Thank you very, very much! It will be fun to get the equipment and try my hand at this. I just put in a new kitchen in my house and I finally have room to do things like this. Thank you!

  citrus wine
Yes! I'd love to have a citrus wine recipe. I've not made wine before but I love to cook elaborate things, and I've canned nearly everything that grows.

I do have a website for my soaps it is:

I have many more items that I need to add to the website but have been so busy trying to sell my house that I haven't taken much time for anything else.

I like the new pictures you've added...I think everything looks more wonderful with a dusting of snow on it.

Looks like the road to my place minus the trees. Long ways back and peaceful...just like I like it.

That task of "getting settled in" part is what's about to do me in... I'd much rather be outside digging, but alas, the inside stuff comes first. The bronze turkeys sound beautiful, I didn't see any in the catalog I was checking; will have to get some more to look at now! I've been wondering if several male turkeys could be kept together, or if they're territorial and would fight? I'm having a hard time deciding which kind I like! haha
And are you sure it's squirrels that are eating your strawberries? I have a couple of box turtles that visit my patch in the evenings...caught one red handed! They really love them. I had a dog that use to swipe them, too. He would wait for the perfect ripeness before he'd eat them. Loved beans and persimmons, too. Go figure. Silly dog.
So did your childhood dog Duke get named from the dog in Cinderella??? Mine did!
