  Silly chickens
I laughed when reading how you left the door open and your chickens came wandering into the house. Ours tend to do that whenever they can. They think the house is just an extension of their roaming area and love to sneak in and EXPLORE!

A very funny thing happened today. I left our sliding door opened on the back porch and went out to do some chores. When I came back in I had 4 hens wandering around the house. They just made themselves at home.

I have 2 sheep that were bottle babies last year and they are sort of pets now. I just started teaching them to wear a halter and to lead. It's a challenge but fun.

  St. Croix
Our St. Croix sound very similar to your Katahdins. Very disease and parasite resistant, as well as no horns (BONUS!)or fiber. The ewes are wonderful mothers and we even had our first set of triplets this season all of which lived! We switched from Angora goats to St. Croix sheep about 12 years or so ago. The sheep have proven to be much more self sustaining than the goats by far. In fact, last week we had an original mother (12yrs old) lamb. Both ewe and lamb are doing great. I think they would love your mild weather in SC as they originate from the Virgin Islands. They don't mind our snow much but are much more active in the mild weather months. Congrats on the babies! It is going to be awesome watching them grow up!

We are looking at Dairy goats to add to our agri-tourism with the milking and soap making for our farmers market. We have Alpine on reserve when they birth and our pen is finished I will be transporting them. I do not want to push her into labor and we are finishing our other things now with the new greenhouse and store front.

Katahdin sheep, very cool! I have looked at getting a couple of those guys for a year or so now. We have St. Croix at our farm, much smaller I believe than Katahdins. How do you like them? Are they easy? Low key? :)

Thanks for visiting our farm page. The barn was built by Diamond Custom Builders. Jason Diamond moved to Ocala from Ohio. He trains Halter Horses and builds Barns. We live on what is locally known as "The Old Priest Place" anyone from this area will know where that is. We bought it in 2004.

We have raised the same animals except the type of lambs and horses. What type and amount of wool do you lambs give you? I love my ducks the most even if they use the barn as the bathroom area. They found the pond after 1/2 the year. That was good till we got 20 inches of snow over night and they could not get back up the hill to the barn. They found shelter under the bridge and could not hear me yelling for them, I was worried they had froze. What we do for our animals, I had to shovel for hours to get them a path threw the pasture. Some of them were so tired I had to carry them to the barn. Man were they happy to see the food and warm bedding.

Keep up the farming and watch the aussi shepards they heard EVERYTHING! wonderful dogs we have 3 of them.
