How are you doing? Still getting that wacky weather? It's sooo nice here. Almost hot! Everything is blooming, lots of the garden is planted, Pippin's winter coat is trimmed... I love spring. My favourite time of year. Good luck with the grape vines. You can see from my photos that we have grapes here. They do really well! And we get a good crop when the raccoons aren't eating them all. They love grapes! And sometimes the opossums eat them too. A couple of years ago we had a family of raccoons that came every night to our main grape arbour. I went out every night before going to bed and scared them off. One night I got so close that I smacked the ringleader on the butt. Scared him to death! They didn't come back again. For a night or two... I bet it's fun having your grandkids back in your life again. Have you picked out the chicks yet? Oops, I mean has your granddaughter picked out her chicks? And has your grandson picked out his calf? It IS exciting! I hope you're all having fun this weekend. Wish we could leave votes on this channel!Come visit me, CSE.

How are you doing? We had a week of warm spring weather and it even stayed above freezing at night! Silly me, I was hoping it would stay that way but now it's cold again. Not surprising at all but disappointing. So, you're pigs are all butchered? How do they taste? Yummy, I bet! We're done with kidding season now and this year goats seem to be in demand so we sold every single kids within days of being born. Pretty good, huh? We aren't keeping any this year and we have so much milk we're even selling one of our does. I will miss her. She's a sweetie. Did your chicks arrive yet? We have new chicks too and they grow so fast! We just got Rhode Island Reds this year. They're pretty good layers and consistent. Have a great weekend!Come visit me, CSE.

Apple smoked pork sure sounds good! Spring isn't showing any signs here yet either. A few fish in our pond died because it was so cold for so long this year. I sure am ready for some warm weather! On a happier note, our goats started kidding a couple of weeks ago and so we've had some little cuties hopping around. They're adorable! Unfortunately, we are not keeping any this year but I'm glad that goats are more popular now so it's fairly easy to find buyers for them who will give them good homes. Used to be so hard in the past! Have fun with your smoking. I used to butcher animals when I was a teenager. I don't do that anymore and dont' really miss it! But, it does taste good!Come visit me, CSE.

Oh, I am sorry to hear about the horses! But I understand. They are a lot of work and we just have the two. Our big boy just had a bout of choke and we had to call in the vet. Now we're chopping his hay into smaller bits with a hand cranked hay chopper. Kind of fun but time consuming! And time is precious as you well know. We had a nice holiday and new year and things are going great. Our snow is beginning to melt now. We've had over a foot of snow on the ground for a month and a half now and it was pretty cold for quite a long time. So glad none of our pipes froze! How about there? Glad you still have those cute donkeys. I think donkeys are horses in bunny suits! So adorable!Come visit me, CSE.

Brrrrrrr! It's properly cold here now. I was hoping for some icy weather to help harden up the muddy flooded ground. Seems to have worked! I drove a horse today and was completely bundled up. Still a bit chilly despite the layers. It was loads of fun though! Glad your piglets are growing. We had a few pigs in NZ and I remember how fast those little ones didn't stay little! They are awfully cute though. And LOUD! You mentioned your daughter visiting from Idaho. Does she come every Christmas? I bet it's fun to have her back! And the grandkids too. We have tons of Canada geese here too. They like to stop in our valley on their way. Love hearing them during the night. Wish I could leave a vote. They really need to add voting to this channel!Come visit me, CSE.

How are you doing? It's great to hear from you again on here. So sorry about your sow. Oh my, did the boars kill her? I kept pigs before coming to the US so I know that they're smart and can be quite dangerous. We had one sow that used to make traps for the ducks and then she'd lie in wait and kill and eat them. She was as friendly as could be unless you were a duck. So, you're inundated with apples? So are we! We have a few trees of our own that did really well this year. And just when we thought we were done dealing with those our neighbour gaves us several buckets of apples. We finished saucing those when we got given an offer we could not pass up. A local orchard with literally hundreds of trees decided not to sell this year. Anyone can go by and pick apples for free. They're tons of varieties and all our huge apples with no flaws. Yum! So, guess what we're doing now! Yep, canning, saucing, apple buttering, desserts, etc. We freeze some too. They don't turn mushy. Just blanche them lightly beforehand. We like to slice them and freeze them for future pies. The horses, goats, and chickens are enjoying the bad apples. Nope, no vacation this summer. Too busy! We will probably go to the coast this winter. Get away from all the snow and ice for a week. Don't work too hard!Come visit me, CSE.

A cup of tea..... sounds good.... lost a big sow today..... and have not been happy since then.......a cup of tea might just settle me down. I know I have lots of sows but dont like to lose any of them to any thing.....but the boars were a bit heavy handed and it was a warm day today...... she pushed past me to go to a new pen and disaster...... an awful day. Happy Mothers' Day! I hope you had a wonderful nice spring day and enjoyed a lovely Mothers' Day. It's beautiful here and I'm so very happy that the cementing of the new patio is all done. That was tiring! Two nights of work in a row. But it was worth it. Pippin, my mini horse, is doing great but I need to fix a flat tyre on the cart. Got to order some patches! In the meantime I've taken him out on a few walks. Not many this week though since we've been so busy. Last Sunday was the biggest event of the year for this county. It was the annual rodeo! Everyone from miles around comes for this big day and there's a parade and all kinds of classes. Eddie (big Percheron) won First Place in the parade! I'm so proud of the big handsome boy. He looked so handsome all decked out. I'll upload photos when I can. Happy Mothers' Day! Any new baby yet?Come visit me, CSE.

I realized it's been awhile since I stopped by. How are you doing? Enjoying spring? We have a bit of the garden planted but it froze last night so we're still waiting for most of it. Got some plants started in the greenhouse though. How are your flats of seeds doing? You did get them in, didn't you? Any news on the new grandkid? I expect he or she is already there by now since his activity since March. Good luck and an early congratulations!Come visit me, CSE.

How is everything there? Getting organized like you resolved for the new year? I'm not in the habit of making new year resolutions. I figure if something needs changing there's no time like the present. Our new year started out quite sad. Our tame squirrel who we raised in 2010 was killed on new year's eve. She was hit by a neighbour's car. Our driveway is their right of way and we're not happy about it. They drive too fast! And now our poor Acorn is gone. She was so smart and friendly and would have had her first babies this spring. I know that you lost quite a few critters in the fire and I know that must have been quite devastating. It's never easy. I hope things are looking up for you and no more fires this year. We're hoping to stay fire free too. Too much forest is burnt down every year. Well, good luck with all your endeavours. Have fun!Come visit me, CSE.

How are you doing? I'm glad your daughter is feeling a little better. How is she now? There must be something wrong with her is she likes the winter! I'm with you on that one. I'll take the hot summer days over the cold of winter anytime. It's cold and wet here and not nice at all. Except when the sun comes out. And I managed to get my 3rd concussion in 4 months. I think Prince, my horse, is trying to kill me! He just explodes and goes crazy. I don't know what's going on. Anyway, I'm staying off horses for awhile. I hope to ride again if my brain ever heals. How are you foals doing? Growing fast, I bet. ttylCome visit me, CSE.

How are you doing? Still snowy there? It's supposed to snow here now too and it was a couple of thousand feet above us. We'll see what happens in the next few days. How is your daughter doing? It's frustrating when someone is sick and you can't figure out why. I hope she's doing better and that you have some kind of diagnosis. Thanks for trying to vote for Eddie. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because the results will be announced on the 15th. I sure hope he wins or least gets second. Stay warm!Come visit me, CSE.

Thanks for answering my question! Cherries, apples and pears were on my wishlist, so I'm glad to hear that you are doing so well with them. I'd like to do some blueberries, and possibly some other berry varieties too. Maybe goji (wolf berries). I've never had them, but I've read that they do well in our type of climates, and they are very nutritious. I'm more than likely going to be at around 6500-7000ft. We are a bit further north than you, but I think they will do ok. No nurseries in the area I'm looking to settle in. Closest town with good nurseries, is Reno, NV, about 2 hours away. I may even try some bare root mail orders stuff out of Washington, and see how they take. Thanks again! I really appreciate the feedback!Come visit me, K&B Ranch.
