Hey, that's so cool that you're a vet tech! So, that means I can bug you with tons of questions! :) I got all my books for Tier one and I'm starting that on Monday. I did all my general classes first so these will be my first vet classes. I'm excited and nervous.

How are you doing? I know it's been a really long time since I stopped by. I've been so busy that I actually haven't been on the channels for a couple of months. I'm back in school, online college, I'm studying to be a vet tech and it's pretty time intensive, especially since I also work full time!

It's been fairly mild temps this summer, just in the 90s for the most part. In June we had 115 degree temps for awhile but they haven't returned. We've had lots of smoke and a few small fires in our valley but nothing like last year. I'm thinking that soon there will be a new syndrome called California Syndrome. Symptoms are coughing, wheezing, and permanent lung damage. It can manifest years later and decades from now it will be on all forms, "Have you ever lived in CA and for how long?" :)

Any fires there? Or have things been better this year too? Yes, winter is always coming and I hate it!

Take care.

Sorry about your snowstorm. That's no fun! No, we haven't had any bad weather except for flooding in our valley. Our property wasn't hit as we're slightly higher. It's supposed to snow this weekend but I highly doubt it. Stay safe! And warm!

  Happy New Year!
Well, we don't have much snow yet but we do have the cold! It finally feels like winter and I don't like it. I was really enjoying the unnatural spring like weather!

I hope your new year is better than ever. Wishing you all the best!

  Merry Christmas!
So sorry I haven't been blogging much. This month has been crazy, topped only by the month before!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas surrounded by family and friends and lots of happy kids.

Do you still have that bay mare hanging about your hay?

We're still getting crazy warm weather but tonight for the first time we got a little bit of snow. It won't stick but I know it will make some people happy for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

Snow? I'm glad we don't have any of that yet. Funny about sticking it in the freezer. Kids! :)

It's actually raining here which is sooo nice. We're having the driest year on record so it sure is nice to have some of that wet stuff. We've had some nights in the 20s now but nothing spectacularly cold yet.

Here's a early Happy Thanksgiving!

We finally got our first frost on Saturday night. We actually made it through October without frost! I don't believe that has ever happened here. I know it hasn't happened in the 22 years I've lived here!

The goats are bred to a Toggenburg this year. Really looking forward to spring! Well, I always look forward to spring!

Wish I were a better correspondent! One day I'll answer your blogs properly and not just rushed like this. Good luck with your critters!

It's always good to hear from you. I always seem to be in a rush somewhere! No time to stop and chat! I'm never ready for winter either. Mentally, that is. I much prefer summer, despite the heat. So far we're enjoying warm spring like weather here. No frost in sight! So unusual!

Take care.

We're doing fine here. It's great to hear from you. We have mixed breed goats. Mainly Toggenburg in our lines now but we're adding Saanen to the mix. And yes, there's some Alpine in there too!

Got rush right now but I'll try to write more tomorrow. We're going through a really bad fire season this year.

How are you doing? Have the temps of summer hit you yet? We've had some hot days but not too bad yet. The most extreme day we had was 34 degrees in the early morning that rose to 110 by mid-afternoon. That's mountain weather for you! I guess you know a little about that!

Animals are doing great, garden's looking good, things are busy. Just checking in.

Thanks for your kind words about Melian. I really miss her. She was something special and so beautiful. I have another saluki now, Ember, and she's such a different personality. I love her too but she's no Melian.

How do the pigs taste? Has spring arrived yet? It's here and the grass is growing. It's way too early! I don't mind if it stays but if the trees start flowering and winter comes back we'll lose all our fruit. Last year we got a long deep freeze after they blossomed and we got no fruit at all. Keeping my fingers crossed.

on your new baby granddaughter! That is wonderful and happy news. I hope she and her mother are doing well.

I also hope your daughter with the blood poisoning is doing better now. That sounds scary and not very pleasant. Ugh!

My sad news is that a month ago my beautiful saluki, Melian, died in a horrible accident. The neighbours' dog has been running loose and is totally untrained and unrestrained. He literally scared my dog to death. She was so terrified she ran straight into a fence and broke her neck.

It was dark and snowy. I heard the horrible crash right next to me and then found her body lying dead in the snow. I cannot ever get that awful image from my mind. I loved her so much. She's the red dog in my photos.

So, my year didn't end very well. I have a new puppy now, she's a red saluki too and her name is Ember. She's helping my heart heal.

How are you doing? I'm sorry I haven't stopped by in awhile. I've been so busy!

This month I'm running Eddie for hotm and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm getting a lot of late nights trying to keep up! But it's fun.

I'm glad you're enjoying a rainy season. Still fire season here and we had a lot of smoke for awhile. We even had evacuated goats staying on our property. They're gone now and the danger has dissipated.

Did you look into Dexters yet? I came across Miniature Zebu too. Boy, they are cute!

That's sad about your Jersey. I have no idea if Dexters do well at high altitude. You're pretty high at 8000 ft!

Enjoy your rain!

How are you doing? So, you got some much needed rain? That sounds so nice! In summer I forget how rain feels and sounds.

Any update on the highlander yet? Have you thought about dexters? They're really cute and would make a great first cow.

Pippin is doing amazingly well. It's been a month since his enterolith surgery now and he's impatient to get back to his adventures! I take him for walks almost every day which I think speeds his progress. 2 more weeks before he's back in the saddle, so to speak!

I'm glad the chicken girl is having so much fun. I remember that age and loving my chickens!

So, did you enter your local parade? It sounds fun like ours.

Enjoy your critters!

It's great to hear from you again. Did you get your points back? I love using my points on here to get the $25 gift certificate for seeds. We've used them 2 years in a row now for the garden.

Talking of the garden, we had the nicest, longest spring ever. Then about 3 weeks ago it suddenly froze and killed all the plants we had lovingly grown in the greenhouse. Okay, so we bought new ones and replaced those.

But it also killed the fruit on the trees so badly that we're really not going to have much of a harvest this autumn. So sad because they were all doing so well!

Now we have super hot weather and things are growing again. I guess you're having that weather too. No rain here either and I bet we won't see a drop till autumn.

How are the chicks doing? It sounds like you have a rainbow collection. We got a pretty diverse collection a couple of years ago and it was fun seeing all the different sizes and colours. Didn't get as many eggs though.

Does your grandson have the Scottish Highlander? Those are so cute! I would love one of those.

We have an adventure going on here right now. My mini horse, Pippin, has been getting sicker and sicker and finally today we got a diagnosis. He has 2 (yes TWO!) enteroliths in his colon. They're huge at about 5" diameter. He's a tiny boy at only 30" at the withers. So, we need to do surgery as soon as possible.

Always something! Have a great weekend and stay safe from any storms. No storms here.

How are you doing? Still getting that wacky weather? It's sooo nice here. Almost hot! Everything is blooming, lots of the garden is planted, Pippin's winter coat is trimmed... I love spring. My favourite time of year.

Good luck with the grape vines. You can see from my photos that we have grapes here. They do really well! And we get a good crop when the raccoons aren't eating them all. They love grapes! And sometimes the opossums eat them too. A couple of years ago we had a family of raccoons that came every night to our main grape arbour. I went out every night before going to bed and scared them off. One night I got so close that I smacked the ringleader on the butt. Scared him to death! They didn't come back again. For a night or two...

I bet it's fun having your grandkids back in your life again. Have you picked out the chicks yet? Oops, I mean has your granddaughter picked out her chicks? And has your grandson picked out his calf? It IS exciting!

I hope you're all having fun this weekend. Wish we could leave votes on this channel!

How are you doing? We had a week of warm spring weather and it even stayed above freezing at night! Silly me, I was hoping it would stay that way but now it's cold again. Not surprising at all but disappointing.

So, you're pigs are all butchered? How do they taste? Yummy, I bet! We're done with kidding season now and this year goats seem to be in demand so we sold every single kids within days of being born. Pretty good, huh? We aren't keeping any this year and we have so much milk we're even selling one of our does. I will miss her. She's a sweetie.

Did your chicks arrive yet? We have new chicks too and they grow so fast! We just got Rhode Island Reds this year. They're pretty good layers and consistent.

Have a great weekend!

Apple smoked pork sure sounds good! Spring isn't showing any signs here yet either. A few fish in our pond died because it was so cold for so long this year. I sure am ready for some warm weather!

On a happier note, our goats started kidding a couple of weeks ago and so we've had some little cuties hopping around. They're adorable! Unfortunately, we are not keeping any this year but I'm glad that goats are more popular now so it's fairly easy to find buyers for them who will give them good homes. Used to be so hard in the past!

Have fun with your smoking. I used to butcher animals when I was a teenager. I don't do that anymore and dont' really miss it! But, it does taste good!

Oh, I am sorry to hear about the horses! But I understand. They are a lot of work and we just have the two. Our big boy just had a bout of choke and we had to call in the vet. Now we're chopping his hay into smaller bits with a hand cranked hay chopper. Kind of fun but time consuming! And time is precious as you well know.

We had a nice holiday and new year and things are going great. Our snow is beginning to melt now. We've had over a foot of snow on the ground for a month and a half now and it was pretty cold for quite a long time. So glad none of our pipes froze!

How about there? Glad you still have those cute donkeys. I think donkeys are horses in bunny suits! So adorable!

Brrrrrrr! It's properly cold here now. I was hoping for some icy weather to help harden up the muddy flooded ground. Seems to have worked! I drove a horse today and was completely bundled up. Still a bit chilly despite the layers. It was loads of fun though!

Glad your piglets are growing. We had a few pigs in NZ and I remember how fast those little ones didn't stay little! They are awfully cute though. And LOUD!

You mentioned your daughter visiting from Idaho. Does she come every Christmas? I bet it's fun to have her back! And the grandkids too.

We have tons of Canada geese here too. They like to stop in our valley on their way. Love hearing them during the night.

Wish I could leave a vote. They really need to add voting to this channel!

How are you doing? It's great to hear from you again on here. So sorry about your sow. Oh my, did the boars kill her? I kept pigs before coming to the US so I know that they're smart and can be quite dangerous. We had one sow that used to make traps for the ducks and then she'd lie in wait and kill and eat them. She was as friendly as could be unless you were a duck.

So, you're inundated with apples? So are we! We have a few trees of our own that did really well this year. And just when we thought we were done dealing with those our neighbour gaves us several buckets of apples. We finished saucing those when we got given an offer we could not pass up. A local orchard with literally hundreds of trees decided not to sell this year. Anyone can go by and pick apples for free. They're tons of varieties and all our huge apples with no flaws. Yum! So, guess what we're doing now! Yep, canning, saucing, apple buttering, desserts, etc.

We freeze some too. They don't turn mushy. Just blanche them lightly beforehand. We like to slice them and freeze them for future pies. The horses, goats, and chickens are enjoying the bad apples.

Nope, no vacation this summer. Too busy! We will probably go to the coast this winter. Get away from all the snow and ice for a week.

Don't work too hard!
