  Sorry
I've been real busy lately. I got most of the pasture clean up. still have a little mowing to do. I've had to use a sickle and a push mower to do it all. Talk about being wore out. Still have a huge red oak to cut up in the pasture too. Its been down since the may 8th storm 3 years ago. It was what the called an inland hurricane. We had straight line wind i believe over 140 mph. This was in Illinois. Well nite all.

Well when our son's mind is made up you can't change it...LOL. He sold Larry and Curley over the weekend and is taken that money and going back to Mr. Larry's place to purchase the 3 week old red spotted gilted that he will name Sunshine. Will be picking her up this Friday. Don't know how Mo will take it when she's got competition for feed again. Every time we passed her pen, we will call her name out loud and she will come to the open end of the pet taxi and give you one eye...LOL. She will eat out of your hand, just doesn't trust the dog or cat.

  Pics
I'll finish the rest tomorrow. At least all the before pics. Then I'll try to get in some after pics. Once the clean up is done I'll leave a few of the after pics but then I'll start put more after picks as I start the building and set up process. It will be like a pic diary of how my farm got off the ground.

Nite All

  Thanks!

Not only do we have clean up, but we had to take son's 4H freezer pig project in sooner then we planned. The water was coming up too fast on the old owner's place and they were swimming and we were the only "dry" place for them. The poor things are in shock from the water and the 2 hr move. Got a pic of them up, son has named them Larry, Curley and Mo even though they are all gilts.

  Off To Bed
Nite All
Going to try to get the mowers fixed tomorrow, and try to get the rest of the wood at least separated. Free wood is nice, but since I didn't cut about half is to big for the wood burner. Any ideas on wood storage that makes rotation easier form more seasoned to the newer stuff? I am going to build a wood shed from used pallets. My guess would be just to leave the green out of the shed until the shed runs low enough of seasoned. Sorry just rambling. Well its off to bed.

Got a little more done today
I guess a little is better than nothing. I hope to have all cleaned up in time for my first annual redneck games birthday party on the 24th. Birthday is actually the 20th but 24th works the best this time. Wife teased me that its my last b-day going up the hill. LOL I'm turning 39.

We are in clean up mode due to Tropical Depression #13. Took the roof of our son's pig pen. Lucky none of the animals got hurt when it came off.

Hope you all have a great day.

Got some stuff done today but not enough
I can't seem to keep any of my mowers running long enough to get the job done. First belt slips off rider, then the pull string broke on the push mower. Lately things keep stacking up on me. Hopefully better times tomorrow. Only bad thing is, is its also back to work tomorrow which gives me less time to work on the farm. Well good nite all.

  Hooray I got some rest
Well I actually got some rest, but to my demise when I awoke it was raining so unfortunately clean up is still on hold. I guess I need to just be thankful to the good Lord I'm feeling a little better. There may be a chance I can find something worth wild to get done. I'll keep everyone posted

Thanks

hope you got some rest and feeling better. I with ya on the off grid thing. We would love for that to be our goal as well. Right now we are stuck on this 10 acres in south Louisiana, longing for one day to be somewhere else with lots of land. But for now we are striving to live a self- sufficient lifestyle to the best we can. Growing our own vegtables, raising some grass-fed beef, some free ranging chickens, and new to the farm some heritage sheep. Stop by my other blog at www.cypresshillfarm.blogspot.com Happy Labor day weekend.

  Bronchitis 6 me 0
I can't seem to kick this bronchitis. I thought for sure last night I was going to be okay. I hadn't coughed for hours until right when I tried to lay down, and that was all she wrote I was up until 6 am then fell asleep for an hour. When I woke up I was up till two then I got about a 2 hour nap. I have been up since but can't do anything for fear of going into another coughing fit. Hopefully tomorrow I can get outside and work, but there is 60% chance of thunderstorms.

Until next time

Thanks to all my visitor's and please come on back
Right now the farm is in a clean up mode. I let the pasture grow up so I would attract rabbits to run my beagles. I used to trial beagles but there wasn't any money to be made and was spending a whole lot in dog food, housing, entry fees, travel, and vet bills. It became a lost cause so I sold most of my beagles or gave them away to good homes. Now I want to convert my 2 to 3 acre property into a self sufficient off the grid profitable farm, but will need a lot of help because I have never farmed before so any help would be appreciated. More pics will come later to help you guys give me ideas. Thanks again
