Why Oh Why Farm with the two bulls and the 18 mth old heifer.

Son sold some pigs to Alcorn University and we could not transport any of his pigs to the fair and back.

Next year....OH found a man that lives somewhere in Covington who sells 1/2 red wattle and 1/2 guniea hog (sp?) they babies are solid black with wattles.

Did you guys get to go to the fair?

We rolled back in on Sunday morning and then had to go back to get all of P2's fair entries that afternoon.

Pigs are ify. But they are heritage, but son's Hereford will be shown as a PB Sow and his 3/4 red wattle (provided we get her condition back due to the babies) will be shown as a sow in the market class...at the fair.

Now for the parish/distric/state show anything without papers will have to weight in for the market class. Anything w/papers can be shown in the AOB (any other breed).

Son will have two hereford bulls and with fingers crossed a settle hereford cow.

He wants to put chickens in, but been a little too busy to help him work with them. But it he still has time to work with them to enter them yet.

  Can't wait
Still in clean up mode, but just reading about all the stuff you more experienced farmers are going through is exciting. I can't wait till the actual farming and raising of the animals begin. just got to get through stage one first, then to the planning stages (kinda do that now at least brainstorming as I clean up the pasture & stuff). Just really excited about eating food that I grew &/or raised.

  Hi Neighbor!

Mt. Hermon, LA

Our son's hereford gilt will be in season next week. Son wants to breed her to CaSh, a pb hampshire boar, because of how his other litter came out with him.

We rather the red wattle hogs, ourselves however we can't find anything is isn't realted to what we got so we have to AI to other breeds.

  Our Beltie
Actually, she was a gift for my mom for Christmas last year. Mama saw a herd of them in Fredericksburg, Texas, and wanted an 'Oreo' cow. Since we have a farm, and mom is very difficult to buy for, we thought this would be a good idea. Ours is registered, but we are finding out that there may be a problem registering her offspring. May I give you some advice? Make sure you either talk with a reputable Beltie breeder or contact the registrar's office in Canada. We're learning the hard way that registering a Beltie can sometimes be tricky! If you need a contact for a breeder in Texas, they have an ad in the back of grit magazine. I trust these guys completely, and they are very knowledgeable. I think they may be able to help you.

Dear Lord, Thank you for the rain, we needed it so much, and it's appreciated. But to be honest im so ready to see some sunshine. Tropical storm Lee has been upon us for several days dumping lots of much needed rain. Just got in from feeding 4 baby bottle calves, and trying to keep them dry, and well....not easy with a mixture of the scours and all this rain....YUK,,,, Happy Labor Day to all......

Thanks for stopping by the farm please come again
Ya I actually got some rest last night, but go figure now its raining here. It figures. Thank for the good wishes. I'm going to try to find something worth wild. I with you on owning a lot of land too, but for now I'm a few steps behind you I only have just under 3 acres (10 would be better, but 50 or more would be great). At least you have 10 its a better start than what I got.

Thanks again

Don't you just love the babies like that! Is it a belted galloway? From the black and white coloring, it looks like it. When you refer to repurposing furniture, is it more antique, vintage or just general? I love the vintage pieces, myself. Have a good day!
