Eggs!!!! Three months after getting our first chickens we have eggs. We also had a couple mishaps with the chickens and our goat dog. Fortunately the hens were not hurt. The goats are really getting big and at 9 months they are 45 pounds, and yes they still want to sit on your lap and can easily jump the four foot fence.Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Farm Update Our first years harvest – not too bad. Over 60 lbs of tomato’s, many peppers, squish and zucchini. Still have a lot to learn, as to how much to plant and when. The summer okra is coming along well. Soon will need to start the winter crop. Our new goats Sophie and Ginger are doing real well and getting big as is our new pup Lady.Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Garden Update Well we are half way through June and we have had some good luck for the first year in our new farm garden. The tomatoes are doing well, as is the lettuce and squash. We have a long way to go in learning this Georgia soil and climate. Time to plant the okra….Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Coyotes? We have not seen coyotes on our property yet but we know they are in the area. The goat breeder had two dogs for his 30 goats. Deb and I both thought it necessary to protect our investment and added another dog to our family farm. We named her Lady. She is a German Sheppard mix. We got her from a gentleman in Tallapoosa. We got to see the mother who was a mix whom the owner claimed had some Collie and the father full Sheppard.Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Farm Update What a wonderful week, we had family visit and not only was it a great get together but also a great test for our 70-foot surface water well. After 6 or 7 days of water usage for 10 people the well was fully recovered in one day. This is great news. Goats – The weaved fence did not even last a week. We installed a Horse fence (with the help of Russ, Norm and Chris). The 12 volt weaved fence did not even get the baby goats attention. The dog sure did not like it.Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Nigerian Dwarfs Join the Farm A new step in our farm. Goats Yesterday we brought home two Nigerian Dwarfs, one 5 weeks old and one 8 weeks old. (yet to be named). The first night was a hand full. We are trying the weaved electrical fence and what we thought was well secure we learned real fast it was not even close. The next morning we started again securing and training. I think I will end up build a traditional fence. But they are really cute and our intentions are to milk them in 6 – 12 months.Come visit me, Kay Farm.

Homestead Progress Update Wow six months since we moved on the farm. With so many farm projects and me still working over seas with only a little leave time we have managed to get a lot down. See attached pictures. - I have finished the passive hot water heater. - The low voltage pumping systems are complete - Rain water collection system is complete. - The first half of the solar system is 90% complete - and we have the garden started. So much to do. Till next time happy farming. - KevinCome visit me, Kay Farm.
