Farm Name: Purdy lil' Suri Alpaca Farm

Year Farm Established: 2011

Location: Huber Heights, OH

Years I’ve been farming: 5 years

Animals I raise: Suri Alpacas

Crops I grow: We have apple trees, grape vines, walnut trees, mulberry trees, blueberries, raspberries, daylillies.

Hobbies I enjoy: We enjoy water gardening in our koi pond, outdoor cooking, and sitting around an evening fire. I enjoy woodworking and my wife crochets, knits, sews and recently started felting.
We have also started a farm store where we sell alpaca products like yarn, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, and stuffed animals.
If you're interested in any alpaca products or have questions please contact us through this blog. We'd love to hear form you.

Club/Associations memberships: AOBA, Alpaca Registry, Inc., OABA, Suri Network, Miami Valley Water Garden Society

The proudest moment on my farm: When we received our alpacas and when I finished building our barn with lots of help from friends and family. Also, the birth of our new crias, Gideon and Samson, here on the farm.
In May, our newest, proudest moment came when we won two blue ribbons at two differnt alpaca shows. Leggs and Samson are both champions. Also, Meri and Samson took blue ribbons in spin-off competitions, as well as "Highest score in a color category" for Meri and a "Judges Choice" Ribbon for Samson.

Pets: We have an Australian Cattle Dog named Ginger.

Farm Motto: God, Country, Family, Self.
In that order.

  Cattle dogs
I'm in the market for a new dog, and a cattle dog has rolled across my mind a few times. I am still deciding if i want to move from the Labrador breed (black). My last couple attempt at labs failed miserablely. The dogs weren't pups when i got them and have put a sour taste in my mouth for the breed. Otherwise the two previous Labs were great dogs. How do you believe the cattle dog adds up? I'd appreciate your input.Thank you

Thanks for stopping by our new Franch web page. Yes, we call it a Franch because it's not quite a ranch and not quite a farm, we are a little bit of both. I will put up pics of all our critters. Your place looks great. How many acres do you have?

  Wonderful Alpacas
I've looked into getting some alpacas but can't swing the cost right now. I've heard they are good guardian's when in with sheep and goats. Good at keeping dogs and other predators away. Not sure if that is true or not.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I have thought about getting alpacas, Is is just a hobby or do you make some income on your venture? I built a barn big enough to handle any livestock that I finally decide to raise. I will have the time away from my job to work on my dream once the kids are out of college.

I LOVE Alpacas. I plan to have either llamas or Alpacas some day... I have a LOT of things I'm going to have and do once I have my own real farm. I'm not in a rush (AT ALL) to grow up but I do look forward to having my own land. Thanks for your visit.

Are alpacas hard to raise? I have sheep, our FFA program raises them, and im looking into some new animals to raise in the future( far future, but future). i also have 6 chickens, soon to be 14 if everything works out, but it seems as the animals get larger they become harder to tend to.

  Hello and welcome.

If you start off with adult gunieas, you will need to pen them for a good month or so, because we found that they would try to make they way back to their old home. When we sold adults, if the new owners did not pen them up they would find their way back to us, unless the owners were way off.

If you start off with chicks, they normaly come in straight run and it takes close to a year before you know what you've got and you can feed them out like day old chicks.

3 guniea eggs = 1 chicken egg, they are very good and dye quite nice for Easter

Son's gunieas would lay their eggs in the chicken coop, but would roost on top of the coop at night and if I did not take a broom to them to chase them in the coop at night the owl would pick them off.

Funney thing is that all the colored gunieas were picked off 1st by the hawks and owls when they were out in the woods. We only lost white ones to the pigs.

They would go around the pig pen EVERY DAY at noon and make such a fuse and when one was stupid enough to jump the pig's fence. Spot had a free meal.

We could tell when someone drove up the driveway better with them then the dog.

Before my son fell out with the reds with them we had 6 on 5 acres. The male guniea killed his show rooster and he traded them for 9 layen hens.

Let me know if you need anything else.

We did not clip their wings, with the coyote problem we had we figured it would be best to allow them to fly up in the trees.

Come visit me, The Homestead.

Thanks for coming by my page and leaving a reply! I hope it will be soon I find the property. Actually I've found a few I love, just need to scrape together the money.

As far as the aquaponics goes. There are great videos on youtube. Just search "aquaponics" and you should find some great stuff! Amazon has tons of books available too! If I find any good articles, I'll post them on my page. Just keep checking back!

Thanks again!
