Year Farm Established: 2010

Location: Duncansville, PA

Years I’ve been farming: 4 years

Animals I raise: Scottish Highland Cattle, Pigs, Chickens (layers and meat), turkeys and maybe some additions to come later.

Crops I grow: A family garden - tomatoes, onions, beans, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, etc.

Hobbies I enjoy: Farming, riding around here in side by side, reading

The proudest moment on my farm: We love watching everything come to life as we add animals and raise them for food. We will be trying our hand at cheesemaking and a root cellar.

Pets: Dog - Kenzee - Brittany Spaniel and an Australian Cattle puppy named Mesa for Mesa Pate (PBR Contractor)

The more I read about Highlands the more that I'm sure they are the breed for me to start with. Their cold hardiness is a real factor to at these higher elevations.

The black hogs sound just as easy going as the highlnds. Let me know how it goes! I look forward to hearing about it!

Beautiful animals! I'm with you. This year I will be learning to make cheese, and I'm researching root cellaring. Here in Louisiana it is very rare to have a cellar, but we lucked up and got one when we bought our farm. I wish you luck with both projects. Keep us posted on how they turn out!
