Bee's
We just started with bees. So far they dont seem to hard. I would suggest taking a bee course if you can find one. They have really helped with the pollination of our garden plants, especially squash and pumpkins.Come visit me, Humble Hen Homestead.

Ducks
Ducks are interesting birds. Ours are not very friendly but they are fun to watch. They always dabble their food in water and make a real mess so ours only get food outside during the day. When we first got chickens we got barred rocks. After a few years we leaned away from them and did not have great success. I would recommend no other breed to someone starting with chickens.Come visit me, Humble Hen Homestead.

Welcome and cograts on your first egg from your new batch of birds, always a special day! We dont have any at the time (we have white rocks right now) but we have always loved barred rocks. We may get rabbits in the future. Come visit me, Humble Hen Homestead.

7/25/12
I started this year with a new flock of barred rocks. They are beautiful and 21 weeks old today. My family enjoys fresh eggs and we do use them as dual purpose.
My garden is over for now, but I plan on some late summer vegs. We were very blessed with peas, but I seem do better with squash later after all the heat.
