You need a pen and a hut. you need a pen for the sow and a separate hut for her to farrow in. something like I have on my farm page would be fine. Put water ( trough or a nipple drinker) in and then feed over the fence. I wean at 3 weeks but you dont have to, some people wean at 6 - 8 weeks.

Thanks for visiting us! What breeds of chickens do you keep? We have around 50 birds right now. Lucky to have some blue copper marans in your flock, we never have livestock auctions around here though i may be able to obtain some through upcoming fairs.

Thank you, I do love my son and our chickens. I couldn't imagine having it any other way...except maybe more land for more chickens, lol. Happy farming!!

  And so my farm begins...
Thank you all for the warm welcome. Tuesday the hubster and I went to a local livestock auction. We purchased...you guessed it HENS! I got an assortment of girls five at the laying age and two youngins that just needed to come home with me. I now have 1 barred rock, 2 comets, 2 blue copper marans(the lil ones), 1 mutt(she's just as pretty as a picture) and 1 americanna(who btw gave me an egg the very first day...a green one!!!). We also came WAAAY to close to coming home with two llama's thank goodness the hubster couldn't get ahold of our neighbor for transport Whew! LoL! It may be a small start but all great destinations start with a single step, so here we go!!!
