I am so ready to get my hands dirty! We are adding a rhubarb plant in an empty isolated spot. I am hoping it makes a good screen for our comport pile.

Canning is done! Now I need to spend some time doing fall clean up. I am wondering if I should pull the dead plants and leave them in the boxes, or throw them in the compost. I was surprised at how much dirt I lost when I was prepping for planting. And the dirt has been the most expensive cost each year. If I had more green and less asphalt, this might not have been a problem, LOL!

Amazingly sweet juicy golden plums are ripe!!!! We spent the weekend canning some conserve, drying some and I may make fruit leather. The branches are still loaded!!! We also received some zucchini from a friend so we made relish. I have had no success with zucchini myself yet. I think I need to build an extra high bed to get deep enough dirt. That may be a couple years away!

  The ugly front....getting improved!
The photo is the front of our little piece of land (read: asphalt!). It's more suburban homestead than farm, but hubby is a city boy, so it's our compromise. The little green we had on our property had been neglected, and started dying off, so this is our oldest hauling brush while a friend cut down the trees last year. We have a good supply of firewood for this winter! Oh, and the house is now green! My husband hates yard work, so almost all of the back yard was covered in asphalt. So I have my beds on top, for now. No pictures of them yet, I always have my hands full when I'm out back!!
