We only breed for a certain time of the year so we keep him out. But with them free ranging I would keep him in if your not inbreeding.

Do you have a big ferral problem where you live? The ferral hog issue over here is the major issue that I don't allow our to have such a large acreage when we are not at home.

At one time we had 3/4 red waddle, son slowly moved the blood line to a 3 way cross. Red waddle, yorkshire and duroc. Hes wanting the temperment of the red waddle, but red belt in color. So he has a hamp/york boar now. Hoping for a litter in mid March from Cola. He will bred his red belt cross Amy in April.

Hope you all made it through Thanksgiving lunch.

My hubby had to tackle the water lines to the bath tub. Why does stuff break on holidays with no stores open?

Homestead, we used Vetricin on Sparky's burns. I highly recommend this spray. It comes in a blue bottle and you can find it at your local vet's office or even at farm supply stores. We've used it on the pigs, cows, goats, I've even used it on my golden retriever. It's good for cuts and scrapes as well as burns and even other skin irritations. Not to mention it's really not that expensive. As for your son wanting to use Sparky's name my husband thought that was really neat!!! What kind of pigs do you raise? Hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving :-)

Did you put anything over the blisters?

Son would like to use your boar's name on a barrow if his Coke has her litter in Feb 2013. P2 (son) said that he's going to name the Feb litter auto parts.

Season Greetings!

LOL... yeah that little piglet's name is Stroky and she is now one of our sows. Minda, yes it was hard having to rebuild. We actually lost 4 sows, 3 of which were pregnant, 13 piglets, and 5 cows. All we had left was one little 2 day old boar that the firemen found running down the road. Poor guy had blisters on his back and we didn't know if he would even make it the first 24 hours after the fire. But with a lot of TLC he is now a very happy 600 lbs boar named Sparky :-)

I cant imagine how people rebuild when there has been a fire through...the stress of what was there and when and where to change it..... to do something different..so it wont happen again. The financial cost of the loss also the memmrobelia that cant be replaced....
