  Calving season
The 1st calf born to Wet Dog Farm came on Dec 6th...we named her cocoa puff. Our next in line cow is showing signs of an impending delivery...swollen udder and springing. However on her vet visit Nov 1st the vet put her at only 5 months pregnant, meaning she would only be about 6.5 months now...could she be showing signs this early for an impending delivery 2 months away?

  Dexter cows
We have three Dexter cows; two black and one red. We also have a black heifer, and a steer. We raise the calves with their moms. The milk is wonderful as is the meat. Our Dexters all have horns as we have coyotes; they are fine around us but tend to circle around strangers. They are cold hardy and don't mind the snow but we put them in the barn at night, through the winter, more for the manure so we can put it on the fields or in the gardens. We really enjoy the Dexters and are in the process of expanding our herd. Alice is due to freshen in April. I'll post some photos.

Hi. The photo is beautiful. We raise Dexter cows and dairy goats. We made ice cream this past summer with some of the Dexter milk. The kids loved it! I like your wish list.

  Welcome to Hobby Farms!
There's some good articles about the right compact tractors in previous copies of Hobby Farm magazines. You could also poke around on the website and search under equipment. If I had the money, a good used Ford tractor with the 3-point hitch and various equipment would fit the bill for two or three acres of crops, but that's just my opinion.

  Hello
Thanks for saying hi, we are at the beginning, know nothing about everything and are excited and about setting up our farm. We are both finishing up a ten year tour to the outback of Australia, and will be coming home soon. We followed our dream, now our hearts our calling us home.... We would love to visit and discuss getting started, and learning from others on how to set up our homestead...
