The hawks are an issue. We have had issues in past. We have them in electrical netting enclosure with Gallagher solar panel as energy source. We move the enclosure periodically and free range at other times. Either way they are happy and produce great. The Wyandotte are great producers but are broody. You will probably have to lift her up to retrieve eggs. If they are slack on laying, add a little dry cat food to their feed. It will give them that extra protein without harming them. Good luck. As for your free ranging with a garden, they love fresh tender plants. Probably will not work. Sorry to tell you this. We let ours into the horse pastures to turn over the manure but they will get into my herb gardens as well as everything else we grow. You will have to designate an area for them to get into. How many do you have. I have about 50 which include ducks, geese, and chickens. Good luck Come visit me, Elizabeth's free range eggs.

Duck Laying
