  Other pets...
We also have a German shepherd...my fur kid. That's him in the picture...Max. We also have an 18 year old Paint gelding, Tuffy, I raised from a yearling....and a 17 year old gaited mule named Socorro. We had a cat, but he hasn't been around for two weeks and we fear a coyote got him. I'm on the search for a kitten to replace our barn kitty, but again,..the sequester...we are hanging on to our money right now.

  My chickens
I have 28 total hens and one roo...a very sweet Buff Orpington. I have Plymouth Barred rocks...my first flock...they will be three years old this spring...and my last flock is a mixture of Buff Orpingtons, Ameraucanas, brown leghorns, and one feisty little Rhode Island Red.

I wanted to get a new group of chicks this spring to replace my older PBRs...but, because of the sequester, we have everything on hold right now....no trips...no incubator....no new babies. I am considering raising a few copper Marand...wondered how cold hardy they are. We sell our extra eggs to buy more chicken feed! This is my third year keeping chickens and I love it...wish I had another coop to let one of my broodies sit on a nest.
