  Harvest time
Well harvested all but three of my pinto bean bushes today. Got a good mess of beans from them. Last couple of bushes should be ready by next week. Beans were perfectly dry so was just a case of shelling them throw them in a sandwich bag and throw up into the cupboard for later use. Green beans are nearly ready to havest and lima are flowering good style. Cucumbers starting to grow on the plants now so going to have good bunch of them. Still only one pumpkin but it getting big now. Almost every day I look it seems to have gotten a bit bigger. Plenty of corn coming so going to have good harvest soon.

  growing strong
Well had a little look around the garden this morning, corn plants going strong, bean plants going crazy and to my suprise the random pumpkin patch has produced its first pumpkin. About the size of a good sized orange. Cucumber, cantaloupe and watermelon plants all going to flower so should have stuff starting soon.

  Rain
Well had nearly a solid week of rain which is slowing me down on getting the planters built for my late harvest planting. Hopefully it drys up in next few days. As you can see from the pics I posted the other day everything growing really well in the garden. And it seems at the moment with this rain every day everything is bigger. Had a couple of visitors to the farm. First was an ornamental box turtle. She was 17 years old and shee dug through a section of mulch I had put down and laid eggs. So got that area sealed off to stop dogs from digging up the nest. Then found a giant daddy long legs on the screen door as you can see. Well thats all for now.

Spent today planting newspaper. Lol. Should work as a natural weed barrier and help keep the ground moist through the day. Also discovered where we carved pumpkins next to the deck last year the seeds got scattered. I now have at least 20 pumpkin plants coming up so have to see how those go.

  Warming up
Finaly tempreatures are coming up to allow us to start planting. Tomato seedlings are up on three of the varieties I have started in pots, and pepper plants are starting to make an appearance. Going to aim to get the carrots, onions and cucumbers in today.

  mulch mulch mulch
Got another truck load of mulch today to spread over the banking at the front of my planting area to stop erosion. Good stuff. Heavier and bigger chunks of wood in it than the regular store bought stuff and a lot cheaper. .6 of a ton for 6 dollars. Oh well get it spread out and then back to digging lol.

  Maintenance
Been busy getting one of the storage sheds painted up. Been fun. Hasnt been painted or treated since it went on site so paint is just being sucked into the wood. Need a gallon or two more to finish it but its looking way better.

Storms and snow has cleared so tommorow will be back at it. Hopefully the pile will be dried out enough for a bit more burning and more digging to be done. Fun Fun Fun

  Damp Day
Spent part of the day removing more turf from what will be the primary veg plot this year. Also been hunting around the web and found a place that I can get used wooden pallets from. Going to get 7 of those to build a compost heap out of. Also while hunting found a place that is giving away used wooden boxes and shipping crates. Going to find out how big those are. If they are decent size going to get a few of them to make into planters and cold frames.

Well couldnt get the pile to burn today so attacked all the high stuff with an axe and got it all cut down. Hopefully a taste of gas tomorrow will allow me to scrub burn the stuff left. Then I have to get some quarter inch screen to riddle out the roots and stones out of the soil in the pile. Busy Busy Busy

  Busy day
Well things had dried out enough after the storms to do a slow burn today. As you can see from the photo I got a good chunk of the pile incinerated but god the junk thats in there is insane. Found what looks like the bottom of a recliner and what looks like the remains of an old computer chair today. Only good thing is that mound apart from the roots and bits of trees appears to be good soil. Last thing I did today was open a test patch of what will be my primary planting ground to see what the ground under there was like. Was hoping for maybe a layer of soil that I could use but nope. All clay and rock less than half an inch down.
Its bad when you wish you had a backhoe to dig your garden lol. Oh well mattock and shovel for me. Hopefully have the area dug down and prepared for planting over the course of the next few weeks.

  Burn Time almost
Hoping the wind will die away today so I can begin the burn on the overgrown pile. With the little digging I have done into the pile there is a lot of good soil in there and also a lot of trash. Found about 30 aluminium cans so far and a couple of old car tyres. Oh well can sell those all to the recycling center and make a bit for buying seeds

  Breaking Ground
Well time to start breaking ground on my first small holding in the USA. The fun part will be the soil. Its heavy clay cur through with tons of rock. So plan is to dig down about a foot to a foot and a half and remove the soil replacing it with top soil and compost to build the new planting beds.
Also have to burn and clear a mound of soil and aparantly builders waste that has been overgrown to give me the full area to work in. Hopefully that mound contains the topsoil thats missing from the area.
