Dont know if we can wash dry and keep clean 4 bulls in the very small barn with Diamond taken up the back. We can only try. P2 & his Papaw got the square hay feeder out together. The 2 wethers are coming in late May. 4 wks until Christmas. Be safe in the cold.

Hello, Glad to hear from ya. Hope all is going good and everyone is well. Fall has set in here in WV. Not real cold yet, but cool enough to start cutting firewood for the outside woodfurnace. The Scottish Highlands are glad to see some cooler weather come wit all the hair they have. We have been considering adding maybe one or two Dexters with the Highlands to see how they do as a crossbreed. Hopefully smaller animals with Highland traits. Just gotta find one or two locally. Not many around here. Was looking at the Herford hogs again on the internet today. Can't wait for the day we can get a breeding pair here in WV. Sounds like ya'll have been busy, busy, busy. Thanks for the update, be safe in all you do and have a great farming day. Talk to ya soon. :)

Been learning a new database at work, then a heifer decided to use me as a punching bag the other day. Sour isn't the word. Nothing broken, THANK GOD! Know about those long days.

Our fair is less then 4 wks now.

Sweetie is up to 1 full strength bottle and a 1 water bottle. P2 going to give her a wk like that and then change her to 2 full strenth bottles per feeding. Can't start the calfmana until she 6 wks old.

Amy came back into heat. Maybe Derpy is too young. Booster for the other pigs for their flu shots.

Rose is putting full weight on her back leg and gainning a small amount of weight given that we have cut her portion in 1/2 anway so she doesn't have too much weight on that back leg.

Weaning calves have lost their voice and not looking for mom anymore.

P2 had Lighting fully halter broke and now only had a snap on his halter so we can grab it when it's time to move him out of the bull pen to feed by himself.

Uploaded pic of P2 & Sweetie

Hi:) Yep, Starting to warm up here some also. However, The hay fields still have water laying in them. Local farmers are just cutting hay around the wet spots. This winter hay is going to be in short supply I am afraid. Rain coming again this afternoon. Try to stay cool. Give the piggies a hug for me. lol.

Well we don't know who is coated better P2's hand or Rose's toe. Both are blue to purple in color (depending on what he uses) and they both smell like lineseed oil from the hoofnheal. She's putting some weight on her back end. Her and Fancy tied in together over a cookie the other day. Hoof looks nasty when time goes between cleaning and coating. Just going to take a lot of time. But now that we are topdressing with coco powder she's returned to eating. But now have taken her off the show cuircut beacuse she will test postive to caffine.

Put Amy in with Derpy. We might have a litter on the ground around Dec 15th or so. IF he isn't too young.

We purchased those porch misters and put them on a battery operated timer and stapled it to the roof of one of the shelters. When the timer goes off they get a mist for 15 mins every 4 hrs. But that's if you keep the hose off the ground so the hogs can't put holes in it.

Hi again,:) Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know. I have been following your Facebook post as well and liking everyone of them. I am trying to raise the money for a black 4-5 year old Dexter cow to go with my Scottish Highlands. No big hurry on the piggy wiggy's. I know it is a busy time and spring is a way off. Yep, Weather is fantastic here in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Mid 80's and very low humidity. Normaly it would be upper 90's and humidity between 95-99%. Love'n this weather that's for sure. Of course it rained all spring and the hay crop is destroyed. Hay around here will be $75.00 for a round bale by the first of the new year. We are scrambling around now trying to buy up all we can. I will watch your post about the fair. Good luck and have fun. Have a great farming day. :)

Well P2 is down to (2) Jan born roos. Lane came over and picked up 1 roo and by that afternoon the other two had jumped and killed the one that Lane held. I have NEVER had such tempermental roosters like the SLW. P2 is trying to talk his dad into making two long runs and putting those in each one.

  Your tips are great!

I guess I need to bother the AgCenter Livestock person and see what the rules for the fair are.

P2 has in mind 1 roo and 1 hen out of his flock. Don't know if he will be able to do showmanship with the chickens because it works up his asthma. I guess I will have to check into it and see if he can wear a mask in order to do showmanship.

How far out do you have to do the blood test on the chickens to show at your fair?

The USDA comes out and test all mature males and % of the laying flock. Nothing still on medicated grower.

Does your son oil the legs and comb before you all entire them?
