  Hi again =)
don't be sorry for asking something you don't know. So ya I'm not a certified medicinal herbalist or anything like that, but I have a lot of books that show you how to make natural remedies, (like a cookbook) as well as their medicinal properties. The parts used are the flowers and can be used for calming, soothing the nerves, improving mood and relaxing muscles, of course their are different ways to apply the 'medicine' like a good way for a stress releiver is to strip off dried (or fresh) and put them in a bath with you then the steam from the water releses the essential oils in the lavender flowers. Also another one is to rub lavender essential oil on sore muscles but I haven't tried this one yet, but I know people that say it works. So ya I also know that that your not supose to use lavender if you are pregnant or brestfeeding. Also a sachet filled with lavender repells moths and other insects. So ya I hope this helps, bye =)

Day 12 and things are looking up here on Grizzly Ranch. My horse is moving around pretty good on his messed up knee and I can actually see places where the cut is starting to fill in. Baby chicks are just about two weeks away from being able to join the rest of the hens and are eating everything in sight. Cooler weather in the mornings makes chores way more enjoyable. Good luck everyone!

  Day 7
After a full week of wound care twice a day on my horse, I realize this is going to be a long slow process. The good news is he seems to be adapting to it really well. Wish I knew more about how this wound is suppose to look as time progresses on though so I would know if I was even headed on the right track. Have a great day everyone!

  wound care
Ok day 2 of wound care on my horse is going much better than I thought it would. I think he figured out with me doing the hydro therapy twice a day on the wound that the water is not going to hurt him. I say this because he stood perfectly still this morning while I ran water over the wound for quite awhile and then even stood still while I cleaned it. My heart still breaks every time I see this big gaping wound but am determined to be diligent in keeping this clean and give him the best chance at recovery that I can. He really is a sweet baby boy after all.

  Oh no!
This morning I had a doctor's apt. for some tests and my fiance had to work. So my sister being the angel that she is came over to feed the horses and cows for us. My heart almost stopped when her son came running in the front door hollering, "Hey we need one of you down here quick Little Man is hurt". Little Man is a one and a half year old gelding that is very dear to my heart. He is the first horse I ever halter broke, taught to load in a trailer and is the subject of all my firsts with horses. Imagine my horror when I went down to the corral to find his back left leg horribly cut right over the joint. I have no idea what he cut it on but you could see his tendons it was that bad. My sister who is truly a saint promptly loaded him up and took him to the vet. The vet cleaned the wound, cut the muscle and skin off that was hanging, loaded him up on antibiotics, medicine for swelling and bandaged him up. He came home with a ton of meds and instructions for wound care. He has to be penned up while this is healing. I am afraid while he is penned up he is going to get too hot. We are in East Texas & it is August afterall. Does anyone have any idea how to keep a wounded horse cool???
