Farm Name: FINCA MARATONGA COSTA RICA
Year Farm Established: 2005
Location: We are on 35 acres of ocean views, 8 mins from Tamarindo Costa Rica., Intl
Years I’ve been farming: 9 years
Animals I raise: I am known as "Jungle Chicken Woman" because I have over 200 free range chickens, plus about that many ducks. We also rescued 6 dogs, 4 horses, a Macaw, 2 parrots and 2 toucans, and 2 rabbits.
Crops I grow: Growing things here is difficult because of extreme conditions of heat, no rain from Nov to May in Guanacaste. The land is eroded badly, so we are using Brad Lancasters work on Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands. We have dug ponds in the creek bed to slow the water flow. Plus we are using 1,000 of Neem trees to cool the land. Just planted papaya seeds in a seed bed. Also have started Moringa trees, and will plant Sorghum this year.
Hobbies I enjoy: Horses, gardening, reading, listening to Geopolitics, Metaphysical topics. And of course CHICKENS.... ha ha
The proudest moment on my farm: Taking the rescue horses Lady and Sugar from starving to death to being fat and happy.
Pets: JOvie, our house Macaw, that talks up a storm, tells the dogs to "Get Out",,
