History of Dutch Rabbits: The Dutch rabbit is one of the oldest domesticated rabbit breeds. The Dutch rabbit originates in Holland. It was exported to England in 1864 where the breed’s distinctive body type and markings were developed and its popularity grew. Courtesy Marylou Zarbock
Conformation: The Dutch rabbit breed has a round, sturdy body. Its fur is short and shiny. A white blaze marks its nose and a white band its neck, but it has a dark saddle and head. The Dutch rabbit breed’s size ranges from 3½ to 5½ pounds. The recognized color varieties are black, blue, brown-gray, chocolate, steel and tortoiseshell.
