Farm Industry News - Annual Farming for the Future Conference Set!
Premier event set for February in Pennsylvania

Small farmers, hobbyists and agricultural enthusiasts are encouraged to register for the 16th Annual Farming for the Future Conference. The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and more than 65 sponsors are presenting this three-day event Thursday, February 1, through Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Penn State Conference Center Hotel in State College, Penn. Keynote speakers include James Howard Kunstler and Michael Ableman.

Seven intensive “tracks” are offered, in addition to a two-day strategic business-planning course and several supplementary activities.  Tracks include Basic Machinery Operation, The Link between Nutrition and Agriculture, Equipment Maintenance and Repair, The Art of Cheese, Secrets of Successful Marketing, Apple Growers Intensive and Seedsaving.   • Jodi Verbanic with Cherry Valley Organics on Cut Flowers

  • John Ivanko and Lisa Kirivist with Renewing the Countryside on How to Tell Your Farm’s Story

Joel Salatin with Polyface Farm, one of America’s best-know grass farmers, will be a featured speaker during the Thursday Evening Winter Picnic.  The picnic satisfies with a cheese tasting and buffet picnic dinner featuring the best of regional and organic fare.
