This glaze makes a perfect flavor base to match to your doughnuts: Add lime, lemon, or orange zest (replace the milk with the corresponding citrus juice); a touch of almond extract (especially good with cherry filling); a sprinkle of espresso powder; or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. lemon juice (optional; tempers sweetness)
- 2 to 4 T. half-and half or cream or milk, or as needed
Beat cream cheese until smooth; beat in sugar. Add vanilla, lemon juice and half-and-half as needed to make smooth, fairly thin glaze.
