Halloween is coming up quick. Are you ready for it? If you looked in my front garden, you’d find six scarecrows dressed for the holiday (yes, one is even a witch), pumpkins and squash and even bright green skulls. Your gardens may look similar, or completely different (perhaps you’re going with a “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme). All we need to do now is dress up our animals for the holiday.
If your animals are anything like mine, they probably won’t go for costumes. Have no fear. There are two types of chickens that need no costume … and they’re perfect for Halloween.
The Black Silkie is fluffy and kind of looks like it just got its feathers blow-dried. It has black skin, black bones and grayish-black meat. The Ayam Cemani is an Indonesian chicken with black feathers that look iridescent. Everything about this chicken is black, including its organs.
Trick-or-treaters will likely get a kick out of seeing black chickens … which will make yours the coolest house in your neighborhood.
