I cook with green onions a lot. There is almost always some left over. Sure I could keep them in a storage container or zipper-top bag, but they don’t last that long. If you’ve ever had the same experience—and if you’ve had the unfortunate task of having to throw away food that could have been used—then this tip from PureWow is for you (and me).

Here’s What To Do:

1. Grab your leftover green onions, an empty water bottle and a funnel.

2. Dice all of the green onions and use a paper towel to dry them.

3. Funnel the diced green onions into the empty water bottle. Secure the cap, date the bottle with a permanent marker and store it in your freezer.

4. Remove the bottle from the freezer and shake out the onions every time you want to cook with them.

Your green onions will keep for three weeks this way, allowing for ample time to plan, create and eat a variety of meals that ask for them.
