3 Ways to Infuse Oil

Infuse oil with your favorite herbs using one of these three methods.

Use one of these three methods to create herb-infused oils for cooking or for home craft projects, including homemade salves and lip balms. For the best results, be sure the herbs are completely covered with the oil in all methods.

1. Slow Cooker Method
Place fresh herbs in a slow cooker and cover with oil. Cover and let cook on the lowest heat setting for 5 hours. Strain and store in a tightly covered container for up to 4 weeks.

2. Sunny Window Method
Put fresh or dried herbs in a glass jar and cover with oil. Screw lid on tightly. Leave the jar on a sunny windowsill for at least 2 weeks. Strain oil and store for up to 4 weeks.

3. Oven Method
Put fresh or dried herbs in a glass jar and cover with oil. Screw on lid tightly. Put jar in a pan and fill pan with water to halfway up jar. Put pan with jar in the oven and cook for 4 to 5 hours on the oven’s lowest setting. Check on your oil periodically to ensure it isn’t burning or scorching (i.e., smoking). Strain oil and store for up to 4 weeks.
