The Farmhouse Reveal

Stephanie Staton
Hobby Farms and Hobby Farm Home Editor

With most of the hard work behind us, I’m delighted with how our farmhouse has turned out and what I envision it evolving into as we finish furnishing and decorating it—the latter of which will likely be a long and drawn out process. As we slowly sort and purge the remaining boxes and bins at my mom’s house, I’m picking and choosing from the artwork and photos I displayed in the old house, as well as dreaming up new ideas to add embellishments. It’s not postcard ready just yet, but like many of you, I have the vision and continue to work toward it each and every day.

Spring’s fickle temperatures have gifted us with some warm temperatures that have jumpstarted our outdoor endeavors: new stairs for the back porch and the start of a patio using the bricks we salvaged from the fireplace. I’m itching to get my hands and some plants in the dirt as I eagerly count down the days to Derby Day—our standard marker for safe planting in Kentucky.

I’ve enjoyed sharing this enlightening and sometimes arduous journey with you. I hope that my experiences—good and bad—will prove helpful for any future remodeling or building projects waiting to be ticked off your to-do list.

I leave you with these final photos of my family’s efforts to restore farmhouse order on our 10-acre farm in the foothills of Kentucky. Farewell and happy building.

The wall paint color is March Wind by Valspar. Both the paint and the cabinets are from Lowes. Thanks for all the wonderful comments! -Stephanie
