German Red Cabbage

This classic red cabbage recipe is perfect for fall—and your crockpot!

Cook this Bavarian classic with ease in your crockpot. Serve with roast beef, pork or goose.


  • 1 small head red cabbage, washed and coarsely sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 tart apples, cored and quartered
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1⁄2 tsp. caraway seeds
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 T. brown sugar
  • 1⁄3 cup cider vinegar
  • 3 T. butter

Place all ingredients in crockpot in order listed. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours (or on high
for 4 to 5 hours). Stir well before serving.
