It’s the time of year that I start to look at my pile of Christmas cards from friends and family that has been making its home on my countertop with a bit of disdain. I love these cards and can’t throw them away, but I’m ready to clean off the clutter.

One of the best trends to hit Christmas cards in years past is the family photo. Not only do we get to hear from friends and family, but we get to see their lovely smiles, as well—just one more reason why I can’t trash such great mail.

I was thinking about my dilemma the other day and decided I would put my old Christmas cards and family pictures to good use, turning them into magnets for the fridge. Now I can keep the smiles around all year long while still cleaning up from the holidays.

My kids love these magnets. I made a set from our own family pictures and they love to use their picture magnet to hang up their artwork.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • small pictures of your family and friends (Christmas-card pictures work great for this.)
  • clothespins
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors

To make your personalized magnet clips simply cut out a picture you’d like to use and hot-glue it to the top of a clothespin. Hot-glue a magnet to the other side of the clothespin. Once the glue has cooled use the clothespin to clip your recipes, notes and artwork to the fridge and enjoy!
