Transform a cast-off cookie sheet into a magnetic message board.

Organization doesn’t have to be boring. A bit of creative repurposing can turn an old baking sheet into a stylish magnetic message board, menu planner, photo display or command center for your home.

Supplies

  • metal baking tray (Check thrift stores, yard sales or the back of your cupboard for cast-off cookie sheets.)
  • scrapbooking paper in your favorite colors or designs
  • paper trimmer or ruler and scissors
  • satin or semi-gloss spray paint (optional)
  • inexpensive paint brush
  • 2 T. liquid craft glue (any kind that dries clear) mixed with 2 T. water

Procedure
If your baking sheet is stained or you simply prefer a painted look, cover the rim of the sheet with several light coats of spray paint.

Once the paint dries completely, use a paper trimmer or ruler and scissors to cut the paper to fit inside the tray. Feel free to layer the paper or use multiple colors to fit your desired theme.

After you’ve mapped out your design, set the paper aside and brush the bare sheet with a light coating of the glue-water mixture. Be careful not to apply too thickly, as this can cause bubbling. Arrange the paper on top of the glue and smooth out any air pockets. Brush another light coat of the glue mixture over the top of the paper, paying special attention to the edges and corners. This will help seal and protect the paper.

Let dry overnight, then add your favorite magnets to hold receipts, photos, recipes or messages.
